Agreed it would take an amendment, meaning it’s very unlikely to happen. AFAIK, requiring all elected officials to pass a competency and drug/alcohol test shouldn’t need an amendment.

Appointees get fired. Elected officials are more challenging. George Santos is an example there. If nothing else, they’d hold their seat but be stripped of all committees. The President would be subject to the 25th Amendment. Impeach the rest?
