Form and function. Excellent job whoever conceived it.
I agree. But it's so sad that it had to come down to this.
Yeah maybe but that's how it is. The problem is the wrong things seem to matter most today.
It doesn't have to be how it is. We've never had this problem before. When I was a kid, we never had to worry about things like this. Something fundamentally happened and changed.
I didn't say it has to be this way I said that's how it is. I totally agree that something fundamentally happened and changed. Let me tell you this, when I was a kid if I told my father the teacher yelled at me, his very first question would be, what did you do? What used to matter no longer matters.
I think it's two main things - mental illness and bullying. The others are how they were raised and so on.
Pharmaceuticals are likely to be one of the main things.
Crazy world we live in.
How do you mean mental illness? There was plenty of bullying when I was a kid but it was handled differently. How we were raised was important. My father expected I wouldn't be an asshole but also that I wouldn't be a door mat. He expected me to respect authority and I got punished for not respecting it no matter who it was. In remember one time at the airport I was 6 or 7 the sky cap took care of our bags and I said to him, "Thank you sir". The sky cap shook my father's hand.
Well I mean remember Columbine High School? That was a clear example of mental illness and bullying.
It is good that your dad raised you right. Many were not so fortunate.
I get it but there was mental health and bullying when I was a kid but no one shot my high school. What's different now do you think and when did it change?
It is good. Most everyone I grew up with was brought up the same way. Even kids from what we called "broken homes". You what I think it is? Victimhood. Not being a victim, there are legitimate victims EVERYWHERE , I'm saying victimhood. Victimhood is a belief being a victim is a reality. The belief leads to rage and a disregard for authority.
Well I have no clue. But clearly there needs to be something done about it. Our government certainly isn't helping much.
Background checks on gun purchases might make it more difficult, but it won't solve the problem.
And you might be right about them feeling like a victim. That in itself is a mental disorder.
I agree we have to do something but I think it's important to know what the problem is so we can apply effective strategies. The govt is not helping I agree.
I'm not sure he many more backgorunds checks can be done. Have you ever purchased a gun? Just asking. I own 4 guns. I also have a concealed carry permit. In order to get that I had to get a background check. But with that I can go to a gun store or a gun show and walk out with a gun the same day because I've already had the background check.
I think victimhood is the problem. I remember whining to my father one time about how terrible my boss was and how he didn't appreciate the work I did. My father said, if he pays you he doesnt need to appreciate you and if you don't like etip whining and get another job. That's exactly what I did. My father NEVER once said, oh how terrible.
I've used guns but never owned one. Never felt the need to. You can call me a pacifist if you want to. LOL.
No I'm not going to call you anything. It's fine if you don't want to own one. I only asked because I think most people who don't own a gun don't really know the process you have to go through to get one.
That's true. I really don't know.
People just can't get a gun. Everyone gets a background check. I wish we had better answers though, I really do.
I understand. But there was no background check on that 18 year old boy in Uvalde. He bought an AR-15 with ease.
just proof that the background check system was a failure upon arrival and should have been scrapped in it's infancy.
