Yep I live in one of the richest cities in North Texas on a beautiful treed and landscaped 3/4 acre lot in a 4,500 sq ft house and have zero violent crime and no human poop to worry about on the sidewalk . And I'm supposed to be envious of NYC. :laugh:
 
They are now saying weight was the likely cause but what I have not seen in the Mind Molder pieces is that it is not necessarily the weight on the building at time of collapse....moving heavy weights over months and years over what the building can tolerate, weaken the structure. Then at some relatively random moment we get the collapse. The problem is that almost none of our parking structures were designed for heavy EV's.....and that the cost of replacement or refitting to deal with EV's would be huge.

But then again the WOKE are in the process of getting rid of cars for all but a special few. You will live in you 15 minute city and walk/ride a bide/use a OneWheel....something like that.

BUT...Parking structures falling down is a lot like bridges falling down....something that almost never happened in Old America...... we know how to prevent it, we used to prevent it but dont anymore. It has to be that the root cause of this calamity is that the inspection process failed....our government failed.

In this case, it's likely that the garage owner faced with higher taxes, higher expenses, and government nonsense forewent maintenance in favor of maintaining profits so he could pay his mortgage, etc. Leftist governments love to tax the supposed "rich" to punish them for their success. The rich respond, as any sane person would, by doing things to avoid the taxes, regulations, etc.

That might be true, but in a functioning America the garage would have failed the ongoing inspection process and been shut down before calamity hit. It is however common in NY for various inspectors to make up inspection documents, often never even visiting the places they they claim to inspect. They do this because making up reports is easier, they are doing as little work as possible to get paid. We are likely to find that this happened here.

This sort of--what's called in the Navy, "radioing" maintenance--doctoring documents is far more common as you move Left politically. It becomes more a matter of passing shit down the line and not getting caught. Bureaucrats become more concerned about their retirement than doing a good job.

When inspectors (who are highly paid I might add) dont do or willfully dont do inspections properly they betray us all.

Point of Fact: NYC parking structure owners must get an inspection every 6 years, from a private contractor they pay. This is a brand new law....I dont know what the old law was....maybe this place had never been inspected.

Learning who to pay attention to is one of the most important of the life skills, one that too few have mastered this deeply into this dark age, that finds America and the entire West in collapse because too often the wrong things have been done.

I suspect that NYC inspectors had been in charge of inspections , it became known that there was fraud in that process so this new law was crafted, but I will await more information. I dont care enough about this to launch my own investigation.
