Iran all but admits it has weapons grade uranium and could make a bomb

Iran's President or Ayatollah or whatever, Ebrahim Rezaei, has said if the US resumes attacks on Iran they could enrich to 90%+ and produce a bomb. I read that as they HAVE enriched to 90% + and could produce, or even have, a nuclear weapon. Why they haven't said anything before is likely because they have at most 1 or 2, or the material to finish 1 or 2. That doesn't give much leverage and no room for testing. You'd need like half-a-dozen in hand to make a credible threat normally.

Of course, right now it isn't normal. The government of Iran is threatened internally and externally so they're playing one of the few cards they have left, that they have a nuclear weapon.

Looks like Trump was right about Iran all along...

When Israel opens up it nuclear program I will care.

Israel openly claims to have nuclear weapons. What difference does that make? Iran is making veiled threats at the moment about being able to produce a nuclear weapon and implying if they do they might well use it.

Good. Then the US should force them to give them all up.

Why? Israel never signed onto the NPT so they aren't bound by its terms like Iran is.

History shows the US has always been the hostile actor toward Iran.
Always? Hardly. The US was a big supporter of the Shah up to Carter and his disastrous handling of Iranian relations. During WW 2, the US improved both ports and railways in Iran big time. It has only been since the Iranian revolution and their hard shift to a theocratic dictatorship that the US has been hostile.

I see. You want a foreign government to overthrow the US, yes? Like the US did to Iran.

Not what Trump’s appointed head of the National Counterterrorism Center said, which is probably why now he is under “investigation”

Regardless, if you believe what you claim does that mean only Iran’s complete surrender of its nuclear stockpile would be considered success in the Iranian war?

And I thought Iran’s nuclear capabilities were “obliterated” last year?

1953

August 19, 1953: CIA assists coup

U.S. and British intelligence agencies help elements in the Iranian military overthrow Iran's prime minister, Mohammed Mossadeq. This follows Mossadeq's nationalization of the Britain-owned Anglo-Persian Oil Company, which led London to impose an oil embargo on Iran. The coup brings back to power the Western-friendly monarchy, headed by Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi. Deeply unpopular among much of the population, the shah relies on U.S. support to remain in power until his overthrow in 1979.

Iran has officially said it. I stated what I believe it implies. What does anything Trump or his administration said have to do with that? Nothing.

If Iran made that claim and couldn't back it up, why make it? On the other hand, making that claim and being weeks to months from a bomb doesn't help you. The only way that claim makes sense is you don't want to come right out and say you have a bomb, so instead you say you could get one in short order--days to a few weeks--and you already have one or more bombs in hand.

That was almost entirely a British thing. They like doing that sort of shit. The US was just along for the ride, so to speak.

However hasn’t Trump since the offset said that is why we went to war, his top reason, so Iran can never have a bomb? So if you believe Iran is telling the truth, and Trump was right all along, wouldn’t only the complete surrender of materials and end of Iran’s potential to construct a bomb be the measure of success?

Yes. And that means more bombing and at least a limited ground offensive unless the government of Iran is overthrown.
