I think the reason it sets off the accusations of racism lies in the way and the why it's done. When somebody does it constantly and with the obvious intention impugning all blacks, it's easy to see why the term "racist" gets bandied about.

And in the continuing spirit of truth, I must say that those accusations of racism are often accurate.

Trying to rationally discuss a social phenomenon and hopefully make some sense of it, even if it means being blunt and painfully honest about certain behavior, is one thing.

Rubbing it in people's faces for the purpose of mockery and derision is something altogether different.
