What would you say was the Best Western ,John Wayne made? What a great thread....boingboing.net..
America's ongoing experiment in handing microphones to cranks took another turn when RFK Jr. floated the thoroughly debunked claim that early circumcision doubles autism risk, prompting Donald Trump to claim expertise on the matter as only he can: "I've studied this a long time."
What that study consisted of remains mercifully unspecified, but few exchanges better capture the current state of right-wing governance than one conspiracy enthusiast offering junk medical folklore while another instantly claims a deep personal research background in infant circumcision.

Well from what I have read they are getting it more often,
My son has autism so I have done a lot of reading on it, and back when they first told us he had it hardly anybody knew what it was, we had a group of about 15 Dr.s at Children's Hosp. discuss his case and none of them knew much about it, it was an intern who spoke up and told them he had just been studying it and my son was a classic example .
Then they looked into it and finally after a week or so they said that is what he had.
And back then as I said it was 1 in every 2700 boys were getting it now is less then 1 in 27.
Another thing since they took the mercury preservative out of a lot of most shots kids get now a days it rate has seem to start going down.
Trump is the worst kind of dumb.
No hyperbole intended but being dumb is not always a big issue as long as you know you are dumb and allow those smarter than you to lead in the areas of their expertise. So a dumb person who concedes the Dr should be making the medical decisions, and not him, is just fine in society.
Trump is that brand of dumb who is too dumb to realize he is dumb and thus thinks he, and not the Dr, or Scientist, or 'Mechanic', etc, should be making the decisions and instead he, Trump should, because he read stuff online and has opinions and then assumes because he has formed opinions they are are as valid or better than any study an expert does.
All of us throughout our work careers have almost certainly worked with people with that Trump type of dumb. The person who will not let the 'experienced' person or 'expert' lead or speak as they think they know they better.
Well as you said they are getting better at diagnosis that could have a lot to do with it. As for the mercury thing back when my son came down with it we took him to the DRs for his shots and he got the MRR shot and we took him home and with in a couple of hours he had a 104 temp and after we got that taken care of you could see him with draw like back into himself , sit on the floor, wouldn't talk , started rocking , and earlier that day he was out in the pool playing with the other kids yelling having fun.
So seeing that, it would / will be very hard to convince me those shots didn't have something to do with it.
He is doing fine , we get him this weekend. One of our g-sons is on the spectrum. Current thinking, at least among educated and knowledgeable sane people, is that the diagnostic criteria has been expanded. My g-son would have been labeled a "problem child" or "a handful" 40 years ago. Now he's just a typical kid with a neurological anomaly. He is very bright, can read already (he's five), has a great deal of empathy, but doesn't deal well with new situations or transitions from one activity to another. A drop of water on his clothes send him into total meltdown. His preschool works with him daily; he's come a long way.
In the old days only the profoundly autistic would have received diagnosis, extra help and attention. Now we are alert to neurodivergence and able to step in if necessary to help the child learn to cope and work around. There is no evidence that vaccines or any other external environmental factors cause spectrum disorder. It's most likely hereditary. My g-son's mom (my middle daughter) is slightly neurodivergent, his uncle quite a bit more so, and so is his g-ma.
How is your son doing now?
He has dementia.America's ongoing experiment in handing microphones to cranks took another turn when RFK Jr. floated the thoroughly debunked claim that early circumcision doubles autism risk, prompting Donald Trump to claim expertise on the matter as only he can: "I've studied this a long time."

My son can tell you what day of the week it is/was just by giving him a date.
It was funny how we found out what he was doing, we would say a date and he would say a day and did this for some time then one day I was on the phone with a friend and he did it , so I asked my friend if they knew a date and what day it was for sure, well her daughter was born on July 4th and it was a sat. so I asked him and that is what he said it was,
so we went and got a calendar and started asking him dates and he was right every time, not only dates from the past but into the future,
It could be 5 years, 10 years 1000 years he has always been right.
It is funny some of the things the people that have autism can do.
Well we don't have a piano so I don't know if he could play it, but if he hears a song once the can sing it with no problem. In the bad old days they called people with those abilities "idiot savants." I'm sure you've seen "Rainman," right? My younger son went to school with a neighbor boy who could do that same thing with dates. He also could play -- perfectly! -- any song he heard just once on their piano. He always won the talent shows at school. But he struggled to get along with others, didn't seem to understand when he'd said something rude or unkind or the reactions he got when he did. He no doubt would be diagnosed as being on the spectrum if he was a school kid today.
About 25 years ago, I had a girlfriend who was a social worker. She worked for the Early Intervention Program.. her job was to find undiagnosed cases of autism In the community. They estimated that about 30 - 40 percent of cases in the poor and uneducated communities were undiagnosed.Well from what I have read they are getting it more often,

Yep diagnoses of Autism has gotten a lot better, as I said back in the late 70s early 80s a lot of Dr s didn't know very much about it.About 25 years ago, I had a girlfriend who was a social worker. Early intervention is very helpful.Yep diagnoses of Autism has gotten a lot better, as I said back in the late 70s early 80s a lot of Dr s didn't know very much about it.
I am glad that is is being dealt with a lot better now a days.
It can be a very serious condition if people are not aware of its effects.
