Would America Be Better Off with More Religion?

This was a Gallup poll article from this morning. The breakdown by age, party, educational level, and flavor of Christianity is interesting. I also thought it was flawed in that they did not include non-Christians (other than the "none" religion category) like Muslim, Jewish, etc.

The poll's consensus was that we'd be better off with more religion. Your thoughts?

"65%, down from 75%, say more religious people would be positive for U.S.
  • More in U.S. now believe government policies influence moral values
  • Public is divided on whether government should promote values"
 
I doubt we would be better off with more religion...and in fact, probably be worse off. More religion seem, to me, to tend toward greater and more frequent disagreements which often get to almost hatred status.

That's my thoughts on the issue as well. How would those (R)s and non-college-educated ppl feel if the "more religion" was Islam? Or Catholic, which they despise almost as much? Did the respondents assume that "more religion" meant their flavor and none other?

Not sure what they mean by religion. Is it just regular church attendance?

Looking at what religious people support these days, I say, no thanks, I’d rather have more humanist, atheist and agnostics than religious people.

Yeah, these polls sometimes don't clearly define what they are talking about.
I personally think humans generally benefit from spirituality, a belief in some kind of objective moral truth, and the humility to understand man is not the measure of all things. I really don't think there are actually that many people that genuinely believe that nothing is real but atomic matter and energy, and that all morality, truth, and values are purely subjective.

In answer to the thread title ... HELL NO!

People are ready to go to blows over religion now. What we need IMHO is strict adherence to the Constitution and it's amendments and clauses. Also, eliminate the tax exemptions for ALL churches and their clergymen.

Absolutely not. Would we be better off with less social media? Absolutely.

We don't need baseless superstitions to be moral or be good people.

Religion as been so politicized, and converted in a tool to indoctrinate the feeble minded with right wing ideology, that I have to say less is better.
