Would America Be Better Off with More Religion?

This was a Gallup poll article from this morning. The breakdown by age, party, educational level, and flavor of Christianity is interesting. I also thought it was flawed in that they did not include non-Christians (other than the "none" religion category) like Muslim, Jewish, etc.

It certainly wouldn't hurt. Most organized religion builds more sense of community and belonging regardless of any person's level of faith in that religion. Much like club and group sports and activities, it would be a net positive to a community.

I was born into a Christian family and have been exposed to many faith walks in my life.

MLB is a private business. Though I personally see nothing in appropriate with putting Bible verses or other religious writings on a baseball cap, if my employer says 'no', then I would follow that direction.,

The Constitutional was deliberated structured to keep church and state separate and to protect religion and religious freedom from government interference and promotion of one over another. Unfortunately in current times, some religious leaders have bitten the hand that protects them by using their pulpits to promote political issues. We need to start revoking their tax exempt status when this happens, and that goes for ALL churches -- fundie far-right ones as well as those urban majority-Black churches.

Social cohesion and support is certainly important in a fractured society where isolation and alienation are increasing risks.

But the Boston Celtics and Los Angeles Dodgers don't build, administer, or endow hospitals, universities, primary schools, orphanages, charities. That's a major difference between sports clubs, bowling leagues, and religion.

Neither do they kill and destroy.
 
I think we would better off with more faith vs more religion. By faith I mean a loving relationship with Christ doing our best to be like him.

My two cents here
