Aquatic biologist says that the dark-colored liner Trump insisted for the National Mall reflecting pool is going to cause more prolific algae growth

Despite the fact that there are probably security cameras located all over the National Mall, Trump is claiming that leftists are somehow sneaking around and pouring in dozens or hundreds of gallons of fertilizer to feed algae and chemical solvents to detach the blue liner. 🤣
The reflecting pool and surrounding area are amongst the highest surveilled in America. It falls under the secret service security umbrella and they have 24/7 video footage recorded amongst other things there.

As Trump is saying his lie now that it is sabotage we can all expect bogus charges and claims by his DoJ that will fall apart before any trial. But they need to feed the magats that·lie so it can be blasted across magat media while they ignore and don't report the case falling apart later.

Dumbest president in our lifetimes.
Which is saying something when this guy is in that lineup...

"...DON'T GET FOOLED AGAIN!..."

Grok, compare the criticism in this thread to the left's commentary when Obama's $34 million Lincoln Reflecting Pool renovation produced similar imperfect results in 2012.

The criticisms show strong partisan symmetry, with similar issues (algae blooms and imperfect results) eliciting predictable outrage or defense depending on the president involved. Both renovations faced longstanding challenges with the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool—a shallow, century-old structure prone to algae due to warm water, bird waste, limited circulation, and environmental factors. Algae has plagued it since 1922, with periodic cleanings needed regardless of administration.

Trump's Recent Renovation (~$14M, 2026)

  • Focused on a quick resurfacing with a dark "American flag blue" waterproof liner/coating (Trump's personal preference), plus some maintenance. It was completed rapidly (weeks) at lower cost than prior full rebuilds.
  • Immediate issues: Algae bloomed days later (one of the biggest June spikes in years per satellite data), turning the water green. Blue material peeled/flaked. Biologists noted the darker liner absorbs more heat, warming the water and promoting growth (e.g., Desmodesmus genus).
  • The thread (Just Plain Politics, left-leaning forum): Heavy mockery of Trump. Posters called him incompetent ("dumbest president," "grade school-level" ignorance of dark colors absorbing heat, "carnival barking"), blamed his aesthetics/choices, accused him of lying about vandalism (fertilizer dumping, solvents), and used it for broader attacks ("toxic... stinks... reflects the Trump administration"). Defenders were dismissed as having "TDS" in reverse or making excuses. Tone: gleeful schadenfreude, personal attacks on intelligence and responsibility.

Trump's team blamed vandalism (some arrests claimed), noted ongoing maintenance, compared it to past reopenings (including Obama's), and highlighted fixes like nanobubblers. Critics on the left amplified it as emblematic of failure, waste, and distraction.

Obama's 2012 Renovation (~$34M, 18 months)

  • Major reconstruction: structural fixes (pilings for sinking pool), new circulation from Tidal Basin (vs. city water), ozone system, paths, etc. Aimed at leaks and stagnation.
  • Immediate issues: Within weeks/months of reopening (Aug 31, 2012), massive algae bloom covered the surface, murky/smelly water, dead birds/ducks reported. Required draining, cleaning (~$100k extra), and doubling ozone. Leaks and algae returned in later years (e.g., 2019).

Left's commentary at the time: Media coverage was present but generally framed as a technical/maintenance challenge for a historic site, not a personal indictment of Obama.

Reports noted tourist complaints ("smells like a wet dog") but emphasized the project's scale, stimulus ties, and engineering efforts.

There was far less viral outrage, memes, or claims of Obama being "dumb" or aesthetically gauche. Defenses highlighted long-term goals and prior neglect.

Conservative outlets criticized the cost and incomplete fix as government waste, but it didn't dominate left-leaning discourse as a character flaw.

Direct Comparison

  • Similarities in problems: Both produced quick imperfect results (algae, murkiness). The pool's fundamental issues (shallow depth, heat, biology) persist; no renovation has been a permanent cure. Darker surfaces can exacerbate warming/algae (noted in both contexts). Costs and timelines differed, but neither fully "solved" it.
  • Partisan criticism:
    • Left on Trump (now): Intense, personal, and gleeful—focusing on Trump's specific choices (color, "gaudy aesthetics"), competence, and blame-shifting. Mirrors how opponents treat any visible shortcoming.
    • Left on Obama (2012): Subdued, contextualized as a complex legacy project with ongoing maintenance needs. Less emphasis on personal failure.
    • Conservatives flipped: Defended or downplayed Obama-era issues; now highlight Trump's relative speed/cost savings while criticizing past waste.
  • Media/Forum Dynamics: Left-leaning forums/media (like the thread) treat Trump's as fresh scandal material. Obama's received more neutral "challenges remain" coverage. Both sides engage in selective memory—algae is "Trump's disaster" now, but a "known historic headache" for Obama.

This is classic partisan pattern: Your team's project flaws = understandable engineering reality / opponent's = proof of stupidity/corruption.

The pool's biology doesn't care about politics, and constant maintenance has always been required. Both efforts had merits (structural vs. quick cosmetic) and shortcomings relative to hype.

Nah. Just a bag or two, and the vandalism was done with a knife. They've been arrested.
The liner is being repaired, and the pumps will get rid of the effects of the little fertilizer they dumped.
I'm convinced that security cameras around the national mall will prove there was no extensive vandalism that would cause a problem this extensive.

What probably caused the pool bottom liner to detach is the thousands of gallons of peroxide your bloated Messiah had poured into the pool.

What 'problem', Cyborg?
The vandalism occurred. They were arrested.

Rosalina Stancheva Christova, a professor of aquatic ecology at George Mason University in Virginia, took water samples from the pool on Tuesday. She confirmed the algae belongs to the genus Desmodesmus.

"The new, darker interior surface is going to absorb more sunlight," Goodale says. "It is going to result in water that's warmer, and that ultimately is going to lead to more prolific algae growth."

Argument from authority fallacy, tard.

"

Appeal to authority

Definition: Often we add strength to our arguments by referring to respected sources or authorities and explaining their positions on the issues we’re discussing. If, however, we try to get readers to agree with us simply by impressing them with a famous name or by appealing to a supposed authority who really isn’t much of an expert, we commit the fallacy of appeal to authority.

Example: “We should abolish the death penalty. Many respected people, such as actor Guy Handsome, have publicly stated their opposition to it.” While Guy Handsome may be an authority on matters having to do with acting, there’s no particular reason why anyone should be moved by his political opinions—he is probably no more of an authority on the death penalty than the person writing the paper.

Tip: There are two easy ways to avoid committing appeal to authority: First, make sure that the authorities you cite are experts on the subject you’re discussing. Second, rather than just saying “Dr. Authority believes X, so we should believe it, too,” try to explain the reasoning or evidence that the authority used to arrive at their opinion. That way, your readers have more to go on than a person’s reputation. It also helps to choose authorities who are perceived as fairly neutral or reasonable, rather than people who will be perceived as biased."

It's already begun.

Trump doesn't like listening to science, anything that counters or contradicts what Trump's beliefs are, is dismissed as a liberal hoax or a Obama/Biden idea, I mean the man bragged that this pool would be taller than the empire state building and these pool contractors work would be so grand that'll last a hundred MINUTES AND IT DID.....LOL

We must never forget that (in his mind but nowhere else), he's smarter than all the generals, the physicians, the scientists, the economists, the historians, the ambassadors, and everyone else in the room at any given time. He's a stable genius, you know. lololol

The little man who never in his life accepted responsibility.
