Texas Public School Students Will Be Required to Read the Bible

I don't know if you read it but it does that. Especially regarding the treatment of women.

"The Quran presents women with profound dignity, spiritual equality, and divine honor—addressing them as partners in faith, purpose, and moral strength. It restores women’s rights in creation, inheritance, and autonomy, while highlighting noble examples like Maryam, Asiya, and the Queen of Sheba as timeless models of faith, courage, and wisdom.

The topic of women in the Quran is not something to be debated in angry forums or angry videos. It is a discussion that must be held with ‘ilm (knowledge) and adab (good manners). What you will find, when we clear away the fog, is that the Quranic address to women is profound, respectful, and foundational.

Let us look together, not at what people say the Quran says, but at the words of Allah Himself."

Yea, that's why Islam makes them wear a burka / hijab, treats them as chattel, and basically gives them next to no rights... Actions speak far louder than words.

^My opinion exactly. It's the thin end of the wedge.
Good way of putting it.

There are some people I could trust to discuss the wisdom literature, without crossing the line into theology, salvation, doctrine, eschatology.
Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, Song of Songs, parable of the prodigal son, and parable of the good Samaritan are overall pretty benign in the right hands. It's wisdom literature. And it's undeniable King James Bible has an esteemed place in the history of English literature.

You have to wonder if holy rollers will try to sneak it over the red line though.

Have you seen some of the books that kids sneak-read and hope their parents don't find out?

Not even remotely comparable. I'm referring to the books placed in school and public libraries children's sections.

I do wish you'd read Spengler's Decline of the West on the sly.

Only towards other Muslims. All others get to die and go to Hell or something.

This is the tone the Quran and Islam take towards foreigners and non-believers.

Contrary to the title about kindness and fairness, the actual wording is more like 'Screw them! Show them no mercy!'
Not true. The Qur'an considers Muslims, Christians and Jew to all be "people of the book."

Definition of People of the Book

People of the Book (Arabic: Ahl al-Kitāb) is a term in Islam that refers to followers of religions believed to have received divine revelation. This primarily includes:
  • Jews
  • Christians
  • Sabians
  • Zoroastrians (in some interpretations)
Historically, the classification has also extended to include Hindus, Buddhists, and Jains in certain contexts.

Significance in Islam

The term is significant in various aspects of Islamic law and social relations:

Legal Status

  • Dhimmi Status: People of the Book were historically granted a legal status known as dhimmi, allowing them to practice their religion in exchange for paying a tax called jizya. This tax was levied on adult males from these communities.

Marital Regulations

  • Interfaith Marriages: A Muslim man may marry a Jewish or Christian woman, but he must ensure that any children are raised in the Muslim faith. Conversely, Muslim women are not permitted to marry non-Muslim men.

Contemporary Usage

In modern times, the term has been reappropriated by some Jews and Christians as a means of self-identification in relation to Muslims. The concept emphasizes shared beliefs in monotheism and divine revelation among these faiths.

You're repeating all the talking points from anti-Islam sites. Don't you ever question the validity of what you read? It's the M E N in conservative, patriarchal branches of Islam that try to control everything about women.

Requirement of Burqas in Islam

Islam does not mandate that women wear a burqa. Most Islamic scholars agree that full-face covering is not a religious requirement. Instead, the Quran encourages modesty in dress for both men and women, but it does not specifically mention the burqa or require women to cover their faces.

Reasons for Wearing a Burqa

Women may choose to wear a burqa for various reasons, including:
  • Cultural Identity: Some view it as a symbol of modesty and cultural heritage.
  • Personal Choice: Many women wear it as an expression of their personal or religious commitment.
  • Legal Requirements: In certain countries, such as Afghanistan under Taliban rule, women are compelled to wear a burqa in public.

Scholarly Opinions

The majority of contemporary Islamic scholars maintain that while modest dress is important, full-face covering is not obligatory. The Quranic verses that discuss modesty focus on general guidelines rather than specific garments.

In summary, while some women wear the burqa, it is not a requirement of Islam, and the choice to wear it can be influenced by cultural, personal, or legal factors.

Is it, feminista?

  • Quran 4:34 explicitly states men are qawwamun (protectors, maintainers, or in charge) of women, due to Allah's preference and men's financial provision. Righteous women are "devoutly obedient" and guard what is entrusted in the husband's absence. For "ill-conduct" or "rebellion" (nushuz), it prescribes admonishing, abandoning in bed, and striking them. This is not fringe; it's mainstream in tafsirs.
  • Other elements: Women's testimony in financial matters is half a man's (Quran 2:282); inheritance is typically half for daughters (Quran 4:11); polygyny for men (up to 4 wives, Quran 4:3); male guardianship (mahram/wali); emphasis on female modesty/obedience.
  • Hadiths reinforce this, including the Prophet's reported statements on women’s "deficiency" in intellect/religion, leadership ("no nation prospers with a woman ruler"), and discipline.

Must you suggest these dense, arcane tomes for me to read? I'm just getting started on The Rage of Party. :sneaky:
