One of the major reasons so many buildings collapsed in the recent Venezuelan earthquakes is that they were shoddily constructed under a Socialist building program started by Hugo Chavez and continued by Maduro. In 1999, Chavez stated a "Grand Housing Mission" to give Venezuelans affordable housing.

The buildings were built as cheaply as possible and used substandard construction techniques like walls made of stucco coated Styrofoam with a concrete, barely reinforced, skeleton frame. Whole neighborhoods built this way crumbled.

In some cases, some, it is suspected of causing minor ones. There have been no cases where a major earthquake like occurred in Venezuela has been linked to it. Venezuela lies on a major fault line of the Caribbean plate. So, it is more likely that these earthquakes were caused by a shift in the plate than fracking.

the US has had fairly strict building codes and regulations for many years. The Dems brought them in against the constant resistance of the Repubs. It is not a difference between types of governments.

That's utter bullshit. Most increases in recent building code are the result of things like EPA, OSHA, CPSA, and other bureaucratic agencies writing new regulations along with industry colluding with the regulation writers to force use of their products.

A great example of this is the arc fault interrupt receptacle. Hubble Electric came out with this and colluded with the NFPA to get these mandated in the National Electric Code and International Residential Code to sell product. They are next to useless as a safety device.

Code varies by state too. California has pretty strict requirements for earthquake protection of buildings for example. They get earthquakes. Florida has what's called Dade County building code to meet hurricane resistance because they get hurricanes.

Democrat run Puerto Rico has shit building codes and that's why they got slammed so hard when they took a direct hit from a hurricane a few years ago.
