If only.

Does anyone in the trump administration know how passports work?

"President Donald Trump on Friday unveiled a new passport featuring an image of himself leaning over a desk with his balled fists. It also contains an unusual phrase for a passport ― one that sounds more like a warning to visitors rather than a message for citizens coming home: “Welcome, but be good!”

Trump shared the images on his Truth Social website, writing that the new books would contain the phrase:

This is so embarrassing. Trump thinks US passports are things that foreigners use to enter the United States. Tell me the man doesn’t have dementia.

I'm not embarrassed.

The article (HuffPost via MSN) is mostly accurate on verifiable facts but frames them with heavy partisan opinion and mockery.

Key Claims and Verification

  • New limited-edition "Patriot Passport" for America's 250th anniversary (America250): True. The U.S. State Department is issuing a commemorative passport design starting July 6, 2026 (while supplies last, ~40,000 copies) at the Washington Passport Agency. It features custom artwork tied to the semiquincentennial, including imagery of the Declaration of Independence and "United States of America 250." Regular passports remain available elsewhere.
  • Features Trump's image/portrait and signature: True, based on released renderings. One page shows a stern portrait of Trump (leaning over a desk with fists, based on a known photo) superimposed over Declaration text, with his gold signature. This is unprecedented for a living president on a U.S. passport. The opposite page includes Founding Fathers signing imagery.
  • Trump claimed it says "Welcome, but be good!": True. In his Truth Social post unveiling the design, Trump wrote: “The U.S.A.’s New Passport, which says, ‘Welcome, but be good!’” Multiple outlets (including non-left-leaning ones like Fox News) reported this.
  • The phrase itself: Not visibly present in the publicly shared images/renderings of the passport pages. Outlets like BBC, Snopes, and others note it does not appear in the visuals Trump and the White House posted. It remains unclear whether it will be printed inside the actual physical passports (State Department has not explicitly confirmed/denied the exact wording in responses). Critics called this awkward or confusing because U.S. passports are primarily for American citizens exiting/re-entering the U.S., not a direct "welcome" message to foreign visitors (that's more for visas/immigration).

The HuffPost piece (by Ed Mazza) labels it "So Embarrassing" and "Tin Pot Dictator" passport, mocks the design as jarring/authoritarian, and highlights social media backlash. These are editorial opinions, not facts. Supporters view it as patriotic branding for the anniversary; critics see personality cult elements or poor taste. Similar commemorative designs have existed for other events, but the presidential portrait is novel.

Overall Assessment

The article correctly reports the existence of the passport, Trump's involvement/image, his posted claim about the phrase, and the resulting criticism. It exaggerates the "awkward phrase" angle for clicks (the phrase's status is ambiguous/unconfirmed in visuals) and uses loaded language ("tin-pot dictator"). No major fabrications, but typical HuffPost framing. The passport rollout is real and tied to a legitimate national commemoration.

So so where is this passport with thay message?

Is this for real? How does anyone who travels regularly not know how a passport works?
trump does not know the difference between a visa and a passport.

I see no confirmation that this is what it's actually going to say when it becomes available
trump, himself, claims it is true.

Your ignorance is undeniable...
We just have different explanations for trump's failure.
