When modern political figures so adamantly cling to an ideological lineage that has universally resulted in totalitarian failure, treating it as mere "idealism" ignores the historical pattern. Redefining a word does not change the structural destination of the policies. If the legislative path consistently strips away private agency and concentrates power within the administrative state, it is executing the exact playbook of classical socialism, regardless of the benign marketing used to sell it.

I believe that some folks have fallen for the benign marketing, and therefore I will continue to remind them that Socialism and Communism are different steps on the same path... and nobody has ever tried to follow that map without failing spectacularly on the first step. Taxation and welfare is, oddly, epiphenomenal in capitalism. In Socialism welfare no longer exists, each are given the same pay regardless of the value of their work, even if they are not working. What I describe there isn't welfare, it is a different phenomena.

The modern Communist calls themselves "Democratic Socialists" and works to obfuscate the meaning of their stated goals. They know that stronger regulation will eventually lead to one of two things. Fascism where the government is ordering the company to make "this many" widgets, thus seizing control of the means of production but not ownership, or it leads to true socialism whereupon the government will seize the means of production rather than just controlling it.

Socialism, being based on theft of wealth, can only exist by feeding off of capitalism, the only system that creates wealth.
Once socialism runs out of places to steal from, socialism utterly collapses.
