You have to be an idiot to see the sneeze picture i put above and not understand how that spread of breath, done in an instant is not propelling the covid virus out with it. The virus is in that sneeze expellant.

Slowing that spread out of that air, in short exposure so you can leave the area absolutely can work to prevent transmission.

When it comes to SHORT TERM exposure, which we are talking about the two key factors needed for you to get it from someone you just are brief proximity is TIME and BREATH (expellant) spread.

The mask slows the expellant spread as compared to no mask, meaning you will get slightly more time before that breath reaches and again in SHORT TERM proximity that ABSOLUTELY does give you more chance to avoid that contact.

Rate of air turnover is also key but you have no control over that, and regardless of that the dynamics of the mask still matter. And properly wearing the mask is a given to what i say. Nothing works if not done properly. Saying that is like saying 'scuba gear does not work if not work properly'... duh. But if worn properly it does work.

A mask does provide provide protection from exhalation of breath and droplets that carry the virus by slowing its velocity and distance of travel.
