Does the ability to do that fit with the claim of decimated? Can a decimated military kill people hundreds of miles away at their own military base?

It can. The Germans in WW 2, for example, were pretty much "decimated" by late 1944 but were still able to launch dozens of V-2 missiles a week against various targets. The attacks were nothing but an annoyance, as was this attack, but given the general illiteracy of the US public to military history coupled with the visceral hatred of Trump in the MSM, this minor attack is played up as significant.

Iran hit the barracks yet we're being told there are only a half dozen casualties. The media is not doing its job so the truth will eventually come out.

No, they didn't. We can see that on the video of the actual stikes. Aside from that, since the strikes were in the middle of the day, the barracks would be largely empty with the troops out at their worksites.

Satellite pix are marked and all over the net. A drone hanger and F-15 hanger were also hit. Rainbow warriors were running around in a panic with nowhere to hide.

Ballistic missiles are hard to stop but they're, on the whole, a useless gesture when used with conventional warheads. In that usage, they're a weapon of desperation rather than victory. They say that the firer has no other reasonable means to effectively retaliate. That's been true since the Nazis were firing V-2 missiles.

In the V-2 case, think of it this way. Each V-2, with fuel, cost roughly the same as a twin-engine bomber of the period to build and fire. It would deliver a 2000 lbs. warhead to about 300 miles maximum range one time. That is, if you sent a wave of twin-engine bombers to the target each carrying 2000 lbs. of bombs and suffered 100% losses you were matching the V-2 in cost effectiveness.

The only real value ballistic missiles have is for delivering nuclear weapons. Then they are very cost effective.
