Fires rage near Moscow after Ukrainian drone strikes​

Ukraine bombarded Moscow with 400 drones in an overnight attack that left fires raging across the region.

An industrial park, fuel depot, warehouses and a residential high-rise building were among the sites hit.

Smoke could be seen billowing over the city of Podolsk in Moscow's southern suburbs, some 30km from the capital, in footage shared by residents on Monday morning.

"Our long-range sanctions have produced results against logistics facilities and an oil depot," Volodymyr Zelensky, the Ukrainian president, said as he shared clips of the aftermath of the strikes.

"We are responding, justly, to every Russian strike against our cities and communities."

For Ukraine, drone strikes like this are akin to the poor man's retaliation weapon. Like Germany in 1944 trying to get back at the Allies any way they could, and one of those methods was firing V-1 missiles, essentially a drone of its day, at Allied cities. Today you have Ukraine doing the same thing with a handful of drones maybe hitting Moscow once in a week doing a bit of damage to a couple of random targets.

The Western media aren't exactly dispassionate observers. They play up Ukrainian successes and Russian failures while downplaying the opposite. They favor Ukraine in their stories. That war has devolved into another WW 1 that neither side can win outright. On the other hand, Ukraine has held on this long only because the West has dumped cubic Euros and dollars into propping them up.

The only--ONLY--reason Ukraine has held their own is the billions of euros and dollars dumped into propping them up. They are not militarily superior on the battlefield to Russia. If anything, they are at parity and only because Western Europe and the US have given them massive military aid.

Russia, has proven, as it has in the past to be a stumbling colossus. Their military is marginally competent and substitutes brute force and numbers for tactical and strategic ability. Ukraine is no better. In the last five plus years the front lines in this war have barely moved. It's like watching two drunken bums slug it out.

Anecdote is not evidence. That aside, Ukraine gets pummeled the same way with drones and ballistic missiles Russia fires at them. The difference is the Western MSM downplays or ignores that in favor of stories that are negative about Russia alone.

Russia has bombed Ukraine much more mercilessly than the US has Iran and yet Ukraine has not only continued to fight but this many years later is upping the fight. yes Ukraine has EU and some US help to keep funding things, but Iran has Oil and as markets tighten and more pain hits the world that oil always finds a way out.

Bullshit. Technology isn't what wins or loses wars, people are. Any technological edge or advancement is temporary at best. The other side adapts, adopts, and adjusts to it. Drones are NOT some panacea and they won't be what wins or loses that war.

They aren't. Incremental improvements in technology do not result in revolutionary changes on the battlefield or anywhere else. Drones have long been in military arsenals. In the Middle East the US has already largely adapted to Iran's use of these to the point where they are now marginally effective.

On the same day Iran hit that base in Jordan with ballistic missiles, not drones, they fired drones at Kuwait, Bahrain, the UAE, etc., with virtually no success.

If anything, the Iranians are having great difficulty stopping US drone attacks.

Last month, the US Navy's Corsair sea drones made by Saronic rescued downed US airmen. More recently, they were used in an explosive attack on Iran.

I thought about that too every time some Trump dick sucker hollers in frustration that we should just bomb Iran back to the Stone Age. Ukraine is the model that you can't just bomb a committed enemy into submission.
