Perhaps...

Grok, explain to Christiecrite why this is funny.

It’s funny because it’s a direct, escalating mock of Stella Creasy’s recent (and very public) animal-ID fail.

A couple of days earlier, Creasy (Labour MP for Walthamstow) posted a video/photo from Lloyd Park in London urgently asking if anyone had lost a parrot. She insisted it was “too big to be a parakeet” and that she was trying to reunite a lost pet with its owner.

London is full of feral ring-necked parakeets — they’ve been established there for decades and are a common, noisy sight in parks. She had basically mistaken one of the city’s most well-known wild birds for an escaped household pet. The clip went viral and she got thoroughly roasted for it.

Scott Cheggs’s post is the punchline sequel:

“Stella Creasy spotted an escaped panther in London today 😱

…paired with a completely ordinary black domestic cat walking along a grassy path.

The joke works on a few levels at once:

  • It takes her demonstrated inability to tell common local wildlife from escaped pets and dials it up to maximum absurdity (a house cat = “panther”).
  • It plays on the classic “escaped big cat” British tabloid trope, but with the most unthreatening possible animal.
  • It’s pure deadpan visual contrast — the caption screams danger, the photo is just a cute black moggy.
That’s why the replies are full of people adding their own “dangerous” animals (crocodiles that are clearly just logs or whatever, etc.). It’s collective pile-on humour at her expense after the parakeet incident.

BTW, she deleted her post after the mockery went viral.

OIC. I just read her bio on wiki and there was no mention of this. Actually, I never hear of her before now.
