I don't think we will ever know how many Americans died unnecessarily because Trump fucked up the response and spread misinformation and denials of the severity of the pandemic. It really was Darwinism in action.

the best data when it comes to things like 'world wide inflation' or 'world wide pandemics', and how any specific Nation is dealing with it, is the peer nation comparisons. Did your country get results that mirror your peer nations (1st world to 1st world?) or more like poorer or richer nations?

it is not dissimilar to examining how your company is doing during a macro crisis where you either perform similarly or worse or better than your competition that is similarly situated and how then the key to the difference is good or bad leadership.

Well, Andrew Cuomo's ordering Chinese Disease patients into nursing homes had a massive, and immediate, effect on the death totals. That ran to over 150,000 on its own.

The New York state Health Department has been accused of underreporting the Covid-19 death toll in nursing homes by as much as 50%, according to the state’s attorney general. The Office of Attorney General (OAG) found that nursing home resident deaths appear to be undercounted by the Department of Health by approximately 50%. The OAG asked 62 nursing homes (10 percent of the total facilities in New York) for information about on-site and in-hospital deaths from COVID-19. Over 153, 200 nursing home residents have died of COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic, according to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).

IIRC, he didn't get it until after he caught it just like when he started to wear a mask. COVID raced through the WH staff and almost killed Trump before they started wearing masks and getting vaxxed.

I remember that vividly. I have no doubt that many MAGATs who parroted the party line about "hoax" and "death jabs" got their vaccines anyways. I know two on this forum who did for sure, despite the public pronouncements echoing their #FuckedupFailure of an #IMPOTUSx2.
