Wrong, but then aren't you always? We had a bipartisan immigration reform bill in 2024. But the MAGATs refused to pass it on your #TangerineTyrant's so-say because he needs the immigration issue to whip your xenophobic flames and get himself elected Dictator IMPOTUSx2. Admit it. You LOVE to see armed, masked government goons terrorizing towns and cities, roaming without supervision of the law, grabbing people from their jobs, their classrooms, courthouses, churches, stores and hustling them away. You felt secret and not-so-secret twinges of joy when the goons gunned down American citizens who were constitutionally protesting this barbaric and fascist behavior, didn't you?
"Bipartisan" means nothing. It is irrelevant. What's relevant is what was in that bill. It was a shit piece of legislation.
It included such stupidities as:
If border encounters reached over 4,000 in a 7 day period special rules could be activated to expedite expulsions. Well, Trump has proved that is irrelevant if you simply enforce existing immigration laws and toss people who cross in jail until they can be deported. Under Trump, average daily, illegal, border crossings have fallen just below 200.
It would slightly tighten asylum rules by reducing the categories that could apply. Another irrelevance if the existing asylum laws were reasonably enforced, instead of like under Biden, allowing anyone in for any reason if they claimed asylum.
It would have no effect on legal crossings.
Persons caught at the border entering illegally could be returned to Mexico rather than their country of origin. That just means they can try to sneak in tomorrow again...
It would "speed up" the asylum and hearing process. Unlikely given the sheer number of people in the system mainly because of Biden.
Would open several new paths to legal residence and possibly citizenship. We don't need illegals any more than we need huge numbers of H-1B visa holders. Corporations want that because they like the cheap, almost slave, labor H-1B's create.
Increase funding for something... How usual, how worthless.
That bill was a waste of paper.
What I see with ICE is they are doing their job in difficult circumstances and assholes, like you, are acting like the violent thugs you are towards them in an attempt to keep criminals in the country.
