Is Ken Paxton a Democratic Socialist?

government ran grocery stores

debating if we should limit choices in deodorant

you are ignoring the direction you shit stains want to go
Gov't making GLP 1's free for everyone...

Gov't making 'any and all food choices free for anyone...'

Gov't making 'any and all healthy life activities (yoga, meditation. etc) free for anyone...'

name the thing and you are saying 'gov't can make it basically free via tax offsets...' and you agree...

Is what you are ignoring and Paxton is pushing and you shit stains support and want to go.

A $5,000 deduction for a GLP-1 does not make the GLP-1 free. A deduction for gym expenses does not make the gym free. The taxpayer still buys the product with his own money; the government simply taxes less of his income afterward.

And I never claimed food at a government-run grocery store would be free. That was never the distinction.

You debate like a clown.

What Paxton is doing is more like Crony Capitalism or Fascism, not Socialism.
You filthy Commie puke! :awesome:
No it fits neatly within the expanded window of Populist Socialism.

When Paxton can say ...

- i think GLP1's (yoga, meditation, etc, etc) are good based on my view of society needing to be healthier and thus i will give a 100% tax credit for any who want to pay for them...

That is a back door way to get the gov't paying for people lifestyle choices the gov't has decided upon.

You could easily expand this to foods. Under the same premise Paxton could randomly pick Tofu or vegetables for 100% tax deduction status while making sure Soda is not.

You on the right, used to scream that the gov't needs to stay out of those type of things as that is SOCIALISM but now Paxton is pushing the gov't needs to pay for these choices via the back door you are all good with it.

That is until a leftist says 'ok lets create our laundry list of things to pay for using the Paxton method. We are good with that.' And then they start listing yoga and meditation and tofu and you guys then AGAIN scream SOCIALISM!!!!

Dude, the government needs to run as little as possible.
What made America great was small stores and ingenuity, not big box stores that can swing their weight around.
Add in the government, and that's another layer of Bah Fongu.
Food supply? Hell to the Naw.

You still misunderstand the objection.

food at a government-run grocery store would not be free. Of course people could still pay for it.

The concern is what happens over time when government increasingly replaces or competes with private markets without facing the same incentives.

Profit and loss aren't just about somebody getting rich. They are signals. They reward businesses that figure out how to produce something better, cheaper, or more efficiently, and punish businesses that don't.

Remove or weaken those incentives and you don't necessarily notice the damage tomorrow. You notice it over years as competition weakens, innovation slows, capital gets allocated politically instead of economically, and consumers get fewer improvements than they otherwise would have had.

That is the distrust you keep missing.

My objection to government-run grocery stores was never “OMG, free groceries.”

It was: what happens to innovation and efficiency when the institution providing the service doesn't have to survive by satisfying customers better than its competitors?

That distinction matters a hell of a lot more than your “but Paxton wants a tax deduction!” comparison.

A $5,000 tax deduction for GLP-1's offsets the cost 100% which equals free in any world you are not playing games.

SO are you actually arguing that the entire wish list of more Progressive Lefties with regards to Healthy Foods, Healthy Activities, things like High Efficiency Appliances, etc, etc, you would HAVE NO PROBLEM with, if a lefty gov't set a tax deduction scheme that allowed each of those things cost to be 100% offset via tax deduction, ...and are you saying you would not scream socialism?

That this entire time if the Progressive left wants to implement all their food and lifestyle choices that is the method that would escape the Socialism claim?

fucking poser

A $5,000 deduction does not offset a $5,000 expense by $5,000. It reduces taxable income by $5,000. If your marginal tax rate were 22%, that deduction would save roughly $1,100 in federal income tax—not $5,000. The GLP-1 is still very much not free.

you are a clown. you just proved you have no idea what the fuck you are talking about. Your entire world view is centered around being a retard

Zymurgy is now arguing that if a leftist Populist gov't says :

You now get a 100% tax deduction offset for all the following products and programs:

- yoga
- meditation
- buying bicycles, e-scooters, other out door stuff
- buying energy efficient appliances
- and ANY and ALL typical lefty wish list stuff

He is arguing he is fine with gov't doing all of that as long as they do it thru it 100% tax offsets.

That a left Populist gov't can ignore any thing and everything the right might want prioritized and NOT give it any tax break while picking and choosing thru the Lefty wish list and giving 100% tax breaks.

zymurgy is arguing that is all good.

...
I understand that perfectly.

And when Paxton says 'i get to pick from GLP 1's and OTHER things in the health space I THINK are good... and offset their cost 100%'... it is the same impact or WORSE than what you say above in terms of picking winners and losers and distorting the market.

zymurgy the retard, who everyone is laughing out cannot see how what he is pushing is countered by the below.

FWIW, the bolded is not correct. A $5,000 deduction doesn't reduce your taxes by $5,000. It reduces your taxable income by $5,000.

When Biden tried to do something similar with 'high efficiency appliances' you guys, on this very forum screamed about it being socialism.

This despite the fact that you can at least argue the tax deduction (rebate) Biden was offering is offset by energy savings the gov't would benefit from, so they got pay back.

So clean up your house HYPOCRITE and stop trying to apply partisan definitions only to the actions you do not like.

If this was Tallarico who came out and said EXACTLY what Paxton did about GLP 1's and a list of other of his other lifestyle healthy wish list activities and products while saying he was going to give tax offsets for ONLY his approved list, there is no chance, NONE, that you guys on the right would not point at as proof of Tallarico being a 'social engineering commie trying to force his personal choices on people by using the tax code'.

You lie if you claim you would be arguing in favor of Tallarico if this was his position while Paxton was arguing against it.

Your shit stain brain is broken with partisanship.

this is a good thread to show that most of you do not have even a basic understanding of taxation and how it works
Isn’t it amazing how the people most convinced they have discovered a better way to run the economy so often have no idea how the current one actually works?
