I feel like there is a disconnect in the understanding of how fundraising works for Universities. There's not one person in charge for the University who raises all capital then determines how it will be allocated.

The athletic department and N.I.L. groups aren't calling donors asking if they want to donate to a science library. Football is a very big part of the USC undergrad experience. It's at the heart of the Trojan Family. There are plenty of people like me, graduates who are passionate about football, but they have money and are willing to donate. I know some of them.

That doesn't mean football trumps everything else at the University, but it's a huge part of the experience. Thus the large sums currently being spent on the program. That's what you're missing.

That is this year, the majority of those others will continue their spending level if not raise it, will USC?

And your missing the point on State schools, their basic budget, operating costs, are covered by the State, a private school’s is not, and priorities in fund raising between the two types of schools, especially those accenting football, is different

It's the same question every school is asking, will our donors continue to give at this current clip (or are they willing to give even more)? I can't answer that. The few people I'm connected to are passionate about the program and have given no indication they will stop giving. But things do change so you never know.

I mean, I'm on a text thread with 5 Cal guys. They claim everyday that USC will not win again. But they're just haters.

My best friend and I have had season tickets since we graduated. He got his MBA at 'SC as well. I'm guessing he's worth around $15m. He's funded a scholarship in the risk management program at the school and has given generously to the athletic department over the years. He's as passionate about football as I am.

To wealthy people, he's but a rounding error. On the whole though he's obviously doing quite well. He's not going to move any needles if he does start giving to N.I.L. but he's talked about it.

I'm sure there are many like him at schools across the country, and plenty like him at 'SC.

There are two different arguments at play here. You've been claiming we won't win because we're a private school and we (somehow) can't compete financially with the LSU's and Alabama's of the world. That's what I'm telling you is wrong.

But being competitive financially doesn't guarantee national championships. So until we win again you will be correct that we won't win. I can't tell you when it will happen next, but when it does I'll be there just as I was in the Rose Bowl in '04 and in Miami in '05 when we won titles.

I mean, having Cenk as his Uncle certainly gave him insight into the business and likely opened some doors for him no doubt. But that only takes you so far. I'm not aware of him being introduced everywhere he goes as Cenk's nephew rather than as his own person.
