Alaska, Florida, and Wyoming, statewide primary elections.

California: Special general election for U.S. House District 14 (to fill the vacancy left by Eric Swalwell).

  • Pennsylvania: Special general election for State House District 12.
  • Arkansas: Special primaries for State Senate District 1.
  • Various local elections (e.g., in parts of Florida, Delaware, and Iowa).

Here are the key results from the August 18, 2026, primaries and special elections (as of the latest available counts on August 19; some Alaska races remain preliminary as additional ballots are counted):

Florida (statewide primary)

  • Governor – Republican: Byron Donalds won with approximately 48% of the vote, defeating Lt. Gov. Jay Collins (~25%), James Fishback (~10%), and Paul Renner (~8–9%). Donalds was endorsed by President Trump.
  • Governor – Democrat: David Jolly (former Republican congressman) won with about 61%.
  • U.S. Senate – Democrat: State Rep. Angie Nixon (a progressive/democratic socialist) scored an upset win over Alex Vindman (former National Security Council official), taking roughly 56% to Vindman’s 44%.
  • U.S. Senate – Republican: Incumbent Sen. Ashley Moody easily won renomination.
  • Notable House race: Incumbent Rep. Cory Mills (R) lost his primary in District 7.

Donalds will face Jolly, and Moody will face Nixon, in the November general election.

Alaska (top-four/nonpartisan primary; results still updating)

  • U.S. Senate: Mary Peltola (D) led with ~48%, followed by incumbent Sen. Dan Sullivan (R) at ~43%. Both are advancing; lower-place candidates trail significantly.
  • Governor (open seat): Jonathan Kreiss-Tomkins (D) ~21–22%, Tom Begich (D) ~20%, Bernadette Wilson (R) ~10–11%, and Dave Bronson (R) ~8% were the early leaders among the 17 candidates. The top four advance to the ranked-choice general election.
  • U.S. House: Incumbent Nick Begich (R) led with ~46%, followed by nonpartisan/independent Bill Hill at ~31%.

Alaska continues counting remaining ballots (including mail-ins); final rankings for the governor’s race top four may take additional days.

Wyoming (statewide primary)

  • Governor – Republican: State Sen. Eric Barlow (~45%) defeated Trump-endorsed Megan Degenfelder (~30%). Barlow advances against Democrat Ken Casner.
  • U.S. Senate – Republican: Rep. Harriet Hageman won comfortably with ~65%.
  • U.S. House – Republican: Secretary of State Chuck Gray won the nomination.

California (special general election, U.S. House District 14)

  • Aisha Wahab (D) narrowly led Melissa Hernandez (D) at approximately 51%–49% in the runoff to fill the remainder of Eric Swalwell’s term. The race was still close with additional ballots being counted.
Results are based on Associated Press, state election sites, and major outlets. Alaska’s tallies remain the most fluid. For the absolute latest precinct-level or certified numbers, check Ballotpedia, AP, or the relevant state election websites.

Yippee!

"Brandon Dukes, a Democrat, won the special election for Pennsylvania House District 12, defeating Republican Scott Timko by fewer than 100 votes to claim a seat held by Republicans since the late 1990s."
