Wall Street Journal Hits Trump For "Dumbest Trade War"

In a scathing op-ed published Sunday, The Wall Street Journal’s editorial board ripped Trump apart for his decision to throw the United States into a trade war with its closest ally, Canada.

“President Trump took exception last year when we called his tariffs against Canada and Mexico the dumbest trade war in history,” the board wrote. “It got dumber this weekend as Mr. Trump escalated with another round of border taxes on Canadian imports, a mere 10 weeks before midterm elections.”

Trade talks between the two countries fell apart over the weekend, with Donald Trump imposing a 50% tariff on $20 billion worth of Canadian goods that include agricultural products, construction materials and manufacturing components. Like the rest of Trump’s tariffs, the costs will be passed on to the American consumer.

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney described the move as an attack by Trump, and vowed to match the tariffs “dollar for dollar” in a couple of weeks.

“Republicans are already getting pounded on the campaign trail over his tariffs and inflation,” the paper owned by Trump-allied Rupert Murdoch stated. “One reason for Mr. Trump’s frigid approval rating is that voters believe Mr. Trump is waging blunderbuss wars without a strategy, and on trade they’re right.”

Trump can't help but be himself and who he is, when not checked is an abusive spouse.

He is continually abusing Canada and other allies with tariffs and by illegally tearing up signed deals all countries, including the US rely upon for business and trade continuity. Even deals he negotiates himself are subject to be torn up by him the next day depending on his 'feels'.

In this last round with Canada as deal negotiations were reported to be going well and near complete, suddenly a new provision was added in that was not part of any negotiations prior which is that the US wanted a Veto over any other trade partners and countries Canada could deal with in the future.

The abusive spouse wanting to lock the partner in a relationship with them while limiting who else they can talk to.

a good healthy trade war makes all nations Maxx out their self-sufficiency.

the US will win an autarky contest hands down.

we need to take it to that level.

neocons can eat shit and die.

a good healthy trade war
There are very situations in history where a trade war was good and healthy. They are generally very damaging.
makes all nations Maxx out their self-sufficiency.
Yes but not in a good way. You need to learn from history and look to the experience of Australia, who experimented with an almost completely closed economy to trade and found themselves in the whirl wind of an inflation spiral, where Australian citizens, for example were paying 3 or 4 times the amount for appliances that most countries in the world were.
the US will win an autarky contest hands down.
No country 'wins' autarky.

we need to take it to that level.
idiocy like yours would put the US into another depression
neocons can eat shit and die.
Yes they can and should.

It would have been unimaginable that even just ten years ago that the US would be engaged in any kid of war with probably our closest ally in the world.

Not surprising considering it is the work of a guy who thinks Canadians burned down the White House. Still bet Trump’s hard on for Canada comes from Trudeau up staging Trump in their meetings

Just making America greater by the day

Trump has the power to hurt and can't resist using it. He gets no satisfaction out of the power to help.

Canada is importing terrorists to the continent.

Canada is importing terrorists to the continent.
there have been several high-profile, foreign-born terrorists who lived, worked, or attended school in the United States before launching attacks against the U.S. homeland or American targets abroad. Counterterrorism data, such as reports from the Cato Institute, tracks individuals who used student, tourist, or work visas and later engaged in terrorism. [1]
Notable high-profile examples categorized by their ties to the United States include:

1. Attended School or Flight Training in the U.S.
  • The 9/11 Hijackers (Mohammed Atta, Marwan al-Shehhi, Hani Hanjour, Ziad Jarrah): Born in Egypt, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Lebanon, the primary pilots of the September 11 attacks entered the U.S. using various visas. They lived in the U.S. for months and trained directly at American flight schools—such as Huffman Aviation in Florida—to gain the skills required to hijack and fly the commercial airliners used in the attacks. [1]
  • Anwar al-Awlaki: Born in New Mexico to Yemeni parents, he spent much of his childhood in Yemen but returned to the U.S. for higher education. He earned a B.S. in Civil Engineering from Colorado State University and a Master's from San Diego State University. He lived and worked as an imam in the U.S. before moving abroad to become a chief organizer and regional leader for Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP), orchestrating several plots against the U.S. homeland. [1, 2]
  • Khalid Sheikh Mohammed (KSM): The principal architect of the 9/11 attacks was born in Pakistan (or Kuwait). He moved to the United States to study, earning a degree in Mechanical Engineering from North Carolina A&T State University in 1986. He left the country after graduating and later planned massive operations against U.S. targets worldwide.

2. Lived or Worked in the U.S. Before Attacking the Homeland
  • Faisal Shahzad: Born in Pakistan, Shahzad moved to the U.S. on a student visa, graduated from the University of Bridgeport, and eventually became a naturalized U.S. citizen while working as a financial analyst. In 2010, after receiving bomb-making training from the Pakistani Taliban, he attempted to detonate a car bomb in New York City's Times Square.
  • Sayfullo Saipov: Born in Uzbekistan, Saipov immigrated to the U.S. legally in 2010 via the Diversity Immigrant Visa program. He lived in Ohio, Florida, and New Jersey, working as a truck and Uber driver. In 2017, he drove a pickup truck down a crowded bike path in Manhattan, killing eight people in an attack inspired by ISIS.
  • Aafia Siddiqui: Born in Pakistan, Siddiqui moved to the U.S. to study, eventually earning a Ph.D. in neuroscience from Brandeis University and living in Massachusetts. She returned to Pakistan, became affiliated with al-Qaeda, and was later arrested in Afghanistan in 2008. During her interrogation by U.S. officials, she grabbed a rifle and opened fire on American military personnel and FBI agents.

3. Visiting or Training via Government/Military Programs
  • Mohammed Alshamrani: A Second Lieutenant in the Royal Saudi Air Force, Alshamrani came to the U.S. for naval aviation training sponsored by the Pentagon. In 2019, while stationed at Naval Air Station Pensacola in Florida, he opened fire in a classroom building, killing three American sailors and wounding several others in an attack coordinated with AQAP. [1]

Trump is such an asshole. He even wants to control the other nations that Canada trades wi
He just announced that he wants countries that are trading with Iran to stop doing so. Where does he get that right? Iran is not suffering from Trump's economic boycotts. They are trading with many nations. Trump wants them to suffer and starve. It makes him happy.

yes those are very high level examples of Americans importing terrorists to the continent.

Can you cite a list of terrorists at that level Canada has imported in, to support your claim?

FLOL are you stupid. You introduced off topic terrorists to this thread when it was not about that.

You are the one ACTING as if this is a problem Canada has done while you do not care and want to ignore that the US has imported MORE and WORSE.

You are a joke. Pointing and blaming others for things you do even worse.
