For those who love to blame boomers for EVERYTHING wrong in the country....

I am actually going to defend Diogenes here. Sometimes it seems like there were two different 60's. Some people had to fight in a war, but others were in a class that did not. It is completely valid for someone like trump did not have to fight in a war.
Did you serve, Wrong Way Wally?

If your house has only doubled in value in 38 years, you have lost a lot of money. That is an increase of 1.8% per year. That is not even keeping up with inflation. Housing prices have more than quadrupled in that time, so your house has comparatively lost over half its value. This is a disaster for you.

Assuming you got your first job at 16, your inflation adjusted wages were $21 an hour. No 16 year old gets $21 an hour for wiping down cars today. Getting paid $21 an hour at age 16, and you were asking where were your tips?

I haven't had my home appraised, so I don't know it's actual value.

You are being stupid. I said my first FULL TIME job in a machine shop, it was at 17, just after I graduated from high school, silly Walt.

Exactly, and neither is “tsunami’s” argument that the younger generation are bums
But that doesn't change that 1) young people today blame Boomers for the high cost of things like (especially) housing and 2) they are correct

Now to be fair high housing costs are not ONLY a Boomer thing, but Boomers are the biggest reason for it.

And as I commented, same as Boomers blaming their elders for such as Vietnam, and tney were right, there is always going to be a generational disconnect on one issue or another

I do think the Boomer generation deserves a lot of criticism, but not because you bought a house cheaply and later sold it for a substantial profit. Of course you took the deal available to you.

The criticism is that your generation inherited one of the most favorable economic environments in American history: tremendous growth, affordable housing and education, strong pensions, manageable federal debt, and relatively little exposure to major-power war.

Then, once your generation became the dominant political and voting bloc, you repeatedly chose benefits today and bills tomorrow. You protected generous retirement and entitlement promises for yourselves, tolerated enormous deficits and monetary policies that inflated asset values, and left younger generations with much higher housing, education, and healthcare costs—and nearly $40 trillion in federal debt.

So yes, I’ll make the argument that the Boomers were the worst generation. And the irony is hard to miss: your parents were called the Greatest Generation because of what they sacrificed and built. Your generation inherited much of that prosperity and, too often, chose to consume it rather than preserve it for the people who came next.

The Air Force promised to pay for my bachelors and masters degree, while paying me to serve. They reneged on that deal, because I had an injury. That caused chaos in my life.

So a different generation, but definitely not a fortunate son.
that is rough.

I sincerely apologize.

Another thing about this whole Boomers situation is this,........officially Boomers were born between 1946 and 1964,.......does anyone really think those born in 64 like myself had the same bright shiny road ahead experience as those born in 46 or so? No,....not even close. Two vastly different times in about every way imaginable. This is why generalizing groups of people is typically a bad idea.
