A rapid landslide of ice and rock and flash floods that killed hundreds in Nepal and China’s Tibet were triggered when the lower part of a glacier broke off and crashed on to the valley floor hundreds of metres below.

A large section of a Himalayan glacier broke loose high in the mountains, near the Langtang region. A tremendous mass of ice and rock plunged roughly 1,200 meters (about 4,000 feet) into the Lhende Khola river valley.
That set off a chain reaction:
Interestingly, instruments initially registered what looked like an earthquake. The USGS subsequently determined that the glacier collapse itself generated the seismic signal — essentially, the landslide was so enormous that it registered like a magnitude-5-ish seismic event.
As for why the glacier broke, that's still being investigated. Scientists are being careful not to say climate change definitively caused this particular collapse. But Himalayan glaciers are rapidly retreating, and warming can increase meltwater and thaw frozen ground while removing ice that helps support steep rock faces. All of those processes can make these high mountain slopes less stable.
So, in shorthand, it looks like:
Glacier collapse → massive ice/rock landslide → river blockage/debris flow → blockage fails → catastrophic flash flood.
That set off a chain reaction:
- The falling glacier produced a huge ice-and-rock avalanche/landslide, picking up boulders, sediment and additional debris.
- The debris appears to have temporarily dammed the river.
- Water accumulated behind that blockage, and when it failed, an enormous surge of water, mud, rock and ice blasted downstream.
- River levels reportedly rose by roughly 9 meters — nearly 30 feet — in about 30 minutes in places.

I’ve seen different angles of it, it was massive, devastating.
There was a similar event on a smaller scale in WA state in 2014. 43 people lost their lives
It happened on March 22, 2014, at about 10:37 a.m., near Oso, Washington, between Arlington and Darrington along the North Fork Stillaguamish River.
It was catastrophic: the hillside collapsed and swept across the river valley, destroying the Steelhead Haven neighborhood, burying part of State Route 530, and killing 43 people. The debris also dammed the Stillaguamish temporarily and caused flooding.

This is just an ordinary forum. Open a search engine, type in "politic forum," and this forum ranks near the top. It doesn't require any VPN. You know there is a "wall," but you also know that many websites are not blocked, like CNN, APnews, The War Zone, and similar ones. The reason I'm here is that it doesn't need a VPN, so it's completely legal. If you use an illegal VPN to bypass the wall, although the chance is very low (I think it's about 0.1 in a thousand), you could still be penalized by the police—often a fine. To be honest, those who are more eager to express themselves go to Reddit, X, or YouTube.
