AI Conscious?

I have never suggested that I am smart...let alone "really super duper smart."

That sounds more like something you might do.

Did I miss it?

Keep digging, boy. I love when people like you show up.

Keeps things flowing!
Lol

You are another ego troll like Cypress. Not as smart as you fancy

And you are a big talker but not much else. Fuck off and take your stupidity elsewhere
See. The difference between us is glaring...as shown here. I am kicking your ass with impunity. You are trying to get rid of me; I am egging you on to dig deeper.

BUT...

Dr. Geoffrey Hinton, one of the OG AI scientists who won the Nobel for his work on backwards propagation, thinks AI IS conscious. I tend to agree but not for the same reasons as Dr. Hinton. I, personally, think that since consciousness is a wholly internal state whose existence in others is limited solely to their ability to communicate to me that they are conscious, that it cannot be "tested for" objectively. And, as such, if the AI acts in all ways that mimic consciousness it is impossible (on my view) to know that it ISN'T.

Hinton has a good point later on that humanity has ALWAYS imagined itself somehow special and separate from the rest of the world only to be reminded again and again that we are NOT. Evolution put is squarely in with the rest of the animals. Yes we have a special skill (communication) but we are still just another animal. We used to think we were the center of the universe only to be taught otherwise. Our self-centering makes us scared to face the idea that SOMETHING ELSE may be conscious.

What is meant by being conscious? Self-awareness? Knowing that I am an individual in a world of other, separate individuals? Many non-human animals have this awareness too. Computers communicate with us, andwith each other. Do they have self-awareness?

Huh?

I’ve shown you that I understand stats and all you’re doing is posting memes

I have handed you your ass...whether you realize it or not.

In any case, you have averred that souls are not real...and I challenged you to prove that to be more than just a blind guess.

Your score is still ZERO.

Stop bragging about what you have done (you haven't)...and actually do something.
I don’t debate little kids
You ought to. Best you stick to the shallow side of the pool until you learn how to swim.

The idea that humans have a soul or all living creatures have a soul or spirit predates organized religion.

Yep. Way before churches and mosques and altars and priests, we believed that all living things possessed a spirit, a life spark. We were closer to nature and part of it, not separated as we are now. Religions teaching that only humans possess spirit is what caused this rift.

I know Catholicism better than most other religions...and in Catholicism, "belief" is the major component.,

The Credo begins with "I BELIEVE..."...which is the religious way to disguise, "I blindly guess..."

I am of the opinion that Catholicism does not "teach" people anything....EXCEPT to "believe" (make the blind guess) that such and so is the truth. I understand that most (maybe all) Catholics will not agree that "believing" is just guessing...BUT THAT IS EXACTLY WHAT IT IS.

Catholicism is not unique in the belief department. Belief in the unseen (and perhaps unknowable) is intrinsic to most religions. The evolution of religion interests me. The natural world has a lot of things that were unexplainable by primitive humans... volcanoes, storms, droughts, floods, earthquakes. Now that we can use science to explain them, the world has gotten more secular. Yet humans persist in the belief that there is something bigger than us, some controlling entity, something that started all this and maintains it.

If it's conscious, to AI, we must be gods, eh?

I love how big a talker you are. You're that loser at the end of the bar who never made much of life but will spin a yard as long as your arm about how big he is in his imagination.

Shallow end of the pool? Says the guy who couldn't even must ONE LEGITIMATE STATISTICS TERM IN AN ENTIRE CONVERSATION?

All hat, no cattle as they say.

My advice...stay away from the insult dynamic. You have no flair for it at all. You look like a flailing 5 year old with your stuff.

Drop to the floor if you must...kick your heels and hold your breath. But don't post about it. You will thank me for the advice at some point.
