Clue for you: nobody said Trump is running again. The entire thread is theoretical—about how Republicans fare going forward.

My point is that Trump has driven away a chunk of the actual small-government/conservative movement and replaced it with populism. Bush did much the same thing to the earlier movement with his idiotic war and spending.

So “Trump isn’t running again” isn’t a rebuttal. It’s almost the point. What exactly is he leaving behind?

To recreate that 1984 map, he would first have to show some actual success on a significant metric.

The debt is exploding. Inflation is still eating away at purchasing power. People increasingly blame “capitalism” for problems created or worsened by government policy.

And simply stopping illegal immigration while continuing to expand the money supply is not going to make life more affordable. You cannot keep debasing the currency, running enormous deficits, and then act surprised when voters say the cost of living still sucks.


Reagan didn’t win 49 states because he tweeted that prosperity was coming. People had to actually feel that things were getting better.
