JPP has been host to a plethora of folk who have their own versions of America's congenital racism .... mostly denial if not out right attempts at justification.

Well, I came across this on FaceBook, and just couldn't resist throwing some HISTORICAL FACTS into the conversation (facts being akin to sunlight to a vampire for the aforementioned folks). The reactions are going to range from predictable to the absurd, but (God forgive me) I just couldn't resist. Enjoy! ;)

2. Typical maga tactic ... dismiss by label so you don't have to discuss content. Maga willful ignorance at it's best.
3. A lot of opinion without discussing specifics. Pity you can't logically or factually disprove JUST ONE point of the video. Typical intellectual cowardice and dishonesty by a maga mook.

I have a whole section of my bookshelf dedicated to the history of zoning and planning etc. so this is right up my alley.

I guess my question is why is this directed at #MAGA types only? Did no Democrats or liberals play any role in setting up zoning across the country?

And even today, you can go to liberal dominated suburbs and find people fighting tooth and nail against zoning changes that would allow even just duplexes or triplexes, as they often want to keep single family only designations (which doesn't discriminate directly by race but certainly can indirectly).

NIMBYism is the ultimate "fvck you, I've got mine," and people in the suburbs (and urban areas) with that attitude are basically reinforcing the exclusionary zoning and planning practices of the past. NIMBYism is certainly bipartisan, but in places like California it's close to a state religion.

You are correct, as I live in the NYC suburbs and know all to well about NIMBY and the Levittown history

But remember, the video shows the character that is being enlightened is NOT some hard right ideologue, but an "average joe" who is oblivious as to how his surroundings came to be. And the educator does state how red lining spanned numerous administrations regardless of political party. And STILL exist in legacy form

I single out our resident right wingers because unlike you and posters like you, they are in abject denial of hoe past racist laws and how such affect today's society.

You should read content carefully and comprehensively, as your own links demonstrate a comedy/ information show that was 85 to 90% accurate in its information and readily accepted criticism by admitting when wrong. It got canned by bean counters in a merger, NOT because it was as you claimed "biased opinion slanted to the left".

Here's your challenge; factually and logically disprove the facts of the video in the OP. I dare you.

Honest question, do liberals know it? It's like density in urban areas. People can tell you climate change is an existential crisis and agree that density around public transportation is better for the environment, but that can all go out the window when the proposed density is near them.

The same with housing (zoning) in the suburbs. People can give lip service to the exclusionary history of zoning but again, it can all go out the window when it comes to their neighborhood.

The example I use is one home can have an I Love Trump sign in front and next door can I have an I Hate Trump sign, but those two people will walk hand in hand to a planning commission meeting to fight changes in zoning, or a new development, in their neighborhood.

All principles often go out the window when it comes to peoples homes and their neighborhood.
