The outrageously expensive urban villages have popped up all over the place, particularly by the Fullerton train station. And these are full of mostly young professionals driving Teslas. Still, the mass of the big cities, Los Angeles, San Bernardino, San Diego - remain shitholes full of homeless and illegals. Dangerous and dirty.

Suburbs have always been working class. They arose due to the demand of the middle class to own their own homes. The left opposes property ownership by the middle class, and in reality opposes the middle class itself. The left wants government housing for all with no private ownership. These urban villages with stores and starbucks on premise are meant to make the prospect of never owning one's own home more appealing. But only a tiny minority of very high wage earners will ever live in such places. A 1 bedroom by Fullerton Station runs $5,200 per month. Those near Union Station in L.A. have similar outrageous rents.

I’m a real estate guy so I’m into demographics and the movement of people. My family moved to Oakland in 1981 at its peak around that time Oakland was 47% black. Today it is about 20%. Today, Latinos outnumber Black people in Oakland as many Black people moved to east base suburbs.

South Central LA used to be 80% plus black in the 1970s and 1980s. Today it is a majority Latino. Same deal, many black families moved to the suburbs, including the inland Empire.

I speak to those two cities because I’ve lived in both of them. But I know they are not alone in their demographic changes.

On a personal level, I couldn’t imagine living in a suburb or a rural area. That said, I completely understand why urban living isn’t for everyone.

What needs to happen today imo, is the changing of many zoning laws in neighborhoods.

I get it, when someone moves into a single-family neighborhood they don’t really want ot to change because you were moving into that neighborhood for a reason.

But if we’re trying to bring down prices and make more neighborhoods accessible, these zoning laws need to change.
