A Defense of a Liberal Arts Education

A liberal arts education also does not mean you get out of taking math and science. Highschool still required one to take core math and science curriculum to be able to graduate.

There was a vocational track in my highschool people could chose to go on, otherwise at a minimum students had to take algebra, geometry, trigonometry, and science requirements.
I took algebra I and II, and Geometry. I was lucky to pass.

you're pompous to presume what others can write about.

you're not smarter than anyone. you're dumber.
Riiiiight....it's "pompous" to make an observation that 'feminist dance theory' classes do not actually exist at any tangible level worthy of talking about 🤣

There are bad math teachers out there.

Point being that a liberal arts education requires there to be a math and science curriculum to supplement the coursework in humanities, literature, and social studies.

I agree, I passed Algebra 2 because I agreed to dance with the teacher at Prom, not a romantic thing, just she thought it would embarrass me, it didn't.

As you can imagine, I cant spell, and I am worse with precise math.

I love Theoretical Physics, but you do not have to be good at precise math for that.

You can’t spell, conjugate verbs, structure simple declarative sentences or understand current events.

What use are you? Receptionist.

The liberal arts have been known as the liberal arts for 2,800 years.

BWAHAHAHAHA

Ah walt - you just make shit up....

The Greeks came out of the Greek Dark Ages with liberal and servile arts(skills). A free person would study the liberal arts, and a slave would study the servile arts. The Greek understanding of the liberal arts was adopted by the Romans, and was preserved by the Catholic Church, Byzantine Empire, and the Arabs during the Dark Ages. The first liberal arts college in what was going to become the US was Harvard University in 1636.

LOL - you take the division of slave to master, and declare that to be "Liberal Arts" education. Slaves didn't "study" much, except how not to get whipped.

All of that happened before the 1980's, and none of that was called "General Education."

Liberal arts schools usually have declared majors. People also get educations beyond their major.

Completely untrue.

ROFL

I take it you have a BA in gender fluidity studies that you are trying to defend?

The seven classical liberal arts are arithmetic, geometry, astronomy, music, logic, grammar, rhetoric.

And yet in a modern liberal arts program you'll find none of them.

That was the core educational foundation of European universities since the High Middle Ages.

Math and science are absent in Liberal Studies programs in the modern world. Indeed most liberal arts students couldn't pass a 6th grade math class.

There never was any feminist dance theory class at any accredited university I attended,

Since you never attended an accredited university that's a pretty low bar.

UCLA offers a doctorate..

You can get a BA from many schools

Even my undergrad alma mater has it;

and if it even exists anywhere it is too insignificant to even write posts about.

Very widespread. Useless, but common. Kind of like leftists in that way.

High school? They had social advancement....

During my MBA program, I had to have my son tutor me in Calculus. I had never had as an undergrad or in high school. I still have my little handwritten notebook of theorems.

Not in the modern age. Most working at starbucks with liberal arts degrees can't count change without the register.

Mathematics is the language of science. You can't understand physics without knowing higher math.

You almost never see anyone at Starbucks over the age of 25, which means the employees with liberal arts degrees eventually go to law school, get teaching certificates, or get set up in some other kind of professional career.
