A Defense of a Liberal Arts Education

It is a junk school, teaching junk science and junk mathematics.
UC Berkley is one of the best schools in the world, ranked up there with the Ivies, Stanford, and Oxbridge. You may not like the advanced science and math they develop, but I reassure you the rest of the world does.

There is no AI.
No computer program is sentient. It has no understanding of any math.
Intelligence would be sentient, but AI is not sentient. Whether it has an understanding of math is highly debatable, but you have a point there. It can have an artificial understanding of math.

You obviously have never developed anything like Grok, Google AI, or ChatGPT.
They are developed through an evolutionary process, which is to say they somewhat develop themselves. This is not writing lines of code like in the old days.

LLM is not mathematics. It is a database.
It is a network.

It is a network.
UC Berkley does not require SAT or ACT scores for admission.

Anchovies is calling this line an ad hominem:

That is not an ad hominem.

What an ad hominem is: attacking the person so you can dismiss their argument without answering it. Classic form: “You’re a troll / partisan / idiot, therefore your claim about liberal arts is false.”

What the posted analysis actually did:

  1. Restated what Frey’s interview actually argues (Tulsa Honors College, formation vs. vocationalism, admin incentives, AI).
  2. Separated the strong parts (formation, admin capture) from the weak parts (cost, which version of “liberal arts,” sloppy Weimar analogy).
  3. Then observed that the thread never tested those claims against enrollment, reading data, outcomes, or the Tulsa record.

That last piece is a description of the discussion, not a character assassination of Anchovies. He wasn’t the OP. Hume started the thread with a Weimar one-liner plus the Douthat/Frey link. The analysis is about that pattern.

Calling a thread “thin link-and-jab” or “personality combat” can be rude. It is still not the fallacy. The fallacy would be using Anchovies’ posting history to dodge Frey’s points. The opposite happened: Frey’s points were laid out first; the forum’s non-engagement was noted second.

The irony is in the same stretch of page 17: Hume calling someone a “boring troll,” Archives dismissing posts as Grok/Musk ventriloquism, and “you don’t understand these subjects.” Those are closer to ad hominem. The Grok write-up he flagged is the one that actually summarized the article.
You kidding, the whole whatever it is is about dissing the people cited in the topic thread, and the bit about comparing it to Musk’s anti woke ideology is beautiful

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

They deny both math and science, Wally.
You don't get to speak for everyone. Omniscience fallacy.
Intelligence would be sentient, but AI is not sentient.
Then why did you claim it was?
Whether it has an understanding of math is highly debatable,
A computer program is not sentient, Wally.

It is like writing code in the 'old days'. They do not develop themselves. They are not even AI.
It is a network.
It is not a network. It is a computer program.

Guess Berkeley didn't teach you much, did it?

Couldn't even make their grade, eh?
Undergrad, I went to where the US Air Force told me to go. Grad, I went to a more selective school than UC Berkley on the East Coast.

Obviously, I will never know if I could or could not have gotten into UC Berkley undergrad. The road not taken.

You never served, Wally.

Looks like you couldn't even make lowly Berkeley's standards.
You can't even spell the name of the place. Hilarious!
