A Defense of a Liberal Arts Education

Berkley has liberal arts, but it is not "liberal arts", nor is it a liberal arts college.

The nature of a "University" is they have many colleges, or schools under their umbrella.

Berkley HAS a liberal arts college, as well as a school of medicine, an engineering college, a college of law, etc.

And they DO have a program for "Dance Theory," as already proven.

It is a public research university, as is UNC, which you would know if you had gone there.

"UNC?" University of North Carolina, which you feigned ignorance of two posts back.

Berkley is a UC - a University of California, as are USC, UCLA, Davis, etc. As an undergrad I went to a Cal State, a California State University. Cal Poly Pomona, to be precise.

Fine arts are not considered liberal arts.

Building straw many arguments again? A sure sign you've long since lost.

Some AI's have an understanding of higher math, but many do not.

Which ones are those?

There is some math involved with creating them, but much less than you would think.

ROFL

You couldn't write "Hello World" in BASIC. You're in no position to pontificate - and if you try to bullshit, I'll gladly expose you.

The first really successful LLM from OpenAI had problems with even simple fractions, other than 5/9's. It was very good at equations using 5/9's, because that is all over the internet in converting Fahrenheit to Celsius. Even today, LLM are much better at language than math, but still have insights.

I used to believe there was an ability to problem solve in our brains well beyond language, but I am not as sure today

That's because you became a Communist and stopped thinking. You bow to the party for all thought. You used to think, but you no longer do, you follow the party.

Computer Engineering. They keep telling me I am welcome back to complete my PhD, also Computer Engineering.

My B.S. is in Management Information Systems.

I'm glad I got my doctorate, but Lockheed paid for it. Not sure I would have wanted the expense had I been picking up the tab. My MBA, which the also paid for, already had me set career wise. Besides, I was a lifer with El Segundo - I wasn't going anywhere.

Berkley HAS a liberal arts college
No, they do not. A liberal arts college would have little to no graduate programs. Berkeley has a college of arts and science that has one of the best, and oldest nuclear physics departments. They have been doing ground breaking nuclear physics work for nearly a century. A liberal arts college would not do such a thing.

Berkeley calls their college of arts and science the College of Letters and Science, but it is the same thing. UNC calls it the College of Arts and Science.

Again, I have to ask how you do not know any of this?

My B.S. is in Management Information Systems.
MIS becomes too specialized. There is not enough general learning. You get a degree that expires over time.

Glad you learned how to spell the college that you supposedly attended, Wrong Way Walter.

Too funny.

I never attended Berkeley. I have never even been there. All the schools I attended were on the East Coast.

I rarely even used the supercomputers at Lawrence Berkeley, instead using the supercomputers at Lawrence Livermore.

Neither here nor there but my father-in-law worked at Lockheed for 40 years.

College of Arts...

Never truthful walt - lying even when the facts are front and center exposing him....

Berkeley has one of the best nuclear science departments in the world.

And one of the most notorious liberal arts colleges in the world.

I'm curious though, you IRGC democrats are violently opposed to nuclear energy - or in fact any source of energy that makes us less dependant on middle east oil. So why do you praise teaching something you totally oppose?

Is it only so that China has a chance to steal research?

You think Oppenheimer worked at a liberal arts college? You think Lawrence Berkeley is run out of a liberal arts college? UC Berkeley is 100% a large public research university, and not a liberal arts college. The first hint should be all the research funding and graduate students.

you IRGC democrats are violently opposed to nuclear energy
I am extremely pro-nuclear energy, as is Biden. In fact, we are seeing trump destroy many of the nuclear energy deal Biden made.

So why do you praise teaching something you totally oppose?
Your point is that rather than being a liberal arts college, UC Berkeley has one of the best nuclear physics programs in the world?

Berkley does not teach Liberal Arts. They teach the usual sham they call 'Liberal Arts'.
