A Defense of a Liberal Arts Education

I'm sure no one actually thought you didn't know who Paul Dirac was. Fuuuuuuuuuck
What on Earth?? :palm:
No one is going to know who Paul Dirac is, or even give a rat's ass about him, unless they studied some physics in college or have have a personal interest in heavily consuming popular science magazines and podcasts.

Humanities is retarded.
:dunno:
I remember being in Humanities class, which is bullshit, the prof was saying some stuff that is patently untrue, and I looked back at this dude like "do you believe this shit?", now we knew each other and were friendly, maybe I was friends with 1-2 of his older brothers, but he just shook his head and facepalmed at the bullshit.
He became a preacher. We had to have that BS class, but it was BS.
Me and that dude know it.

Cypress, let it go. I made a joke at your expense and you are flipping out. Take the Lexapro now, rather than at your usual dosage time.

"Humanities Class". LOLOLOLOLOL.

It wouldn't matter since you and your kids are not elite students, and do not have the ability, talent, or drive to be among the best in your chosen professions.
The Holberg Prize has nothing to do with my chosen profession. So you’re correct on that point that it doesn’t matter.
I didn't have the grades for Harvard or Columbia either.
I’d go to Northwestern State Louisiana University in Natchitoches before I’d live in NYC or Boston for 4 years.
There's nothing wrong with just being competent and getting paid to do a serviceable job.
(y)
But Nobel laureate Richard Feynman …
… wouldn’t be eligible for the Holberg Prize.
and Holberg laureate Jurgen Habermas were not looking for B-plus and A-minus undergraduates from LSU and Akron State to mentor.
Of course not. He wasn’t looking for STEM students from anywhere regardless of grades. Neither could get a job in the professional school I graduated from.

What is a Humanities class?

You are an incoherent moron.
Not really, sweetie.
What is a Humanities class?
Do I need to show you a picture of the book? Because out of all the classes I wish I knew where the textbooks were, that's the one I know where the textbook is. Gah! My least favorite class ever!
Some I may have had to turn in to get credit for books for the next semester, but I kept what I could.
It's a required college class if you want to get a Liberal Arts degree and it sucks donkey balls.

Okay. Never heard of a "Humanities class."

So you can't even confess that you falsely claimed I wrote all California GOP governors were moderate.

That's bad faith posting, because you want to post false allegations with impunity on the one hand, but then have me fetch you links and do research for you on the other.

That's not the way this works, chap.
Well Chap, while Reagan did have his run ins with the UCs and Berkeley specifically he absolutely spoke to the importance of higher education in the state and he supported them.

Again, get over yourself and spare me this bad faith rhetoric. You do not go there.

There's a reason you're trying to focus on this and that's because the neat partisan narrative you've tied your identity to falls apart under deeper scrutiny, with the Northeast being long time heavily Republican and the deep south being long time heavily Democratic.

It's actually pretty fascinating to observe, the argument over the importance of education but then sh*tting on top Universities because they are in states you don't like politically. Again, the battle of principle or partisanship.

It wouldn't matter since you and your kids are not elite students, and do not have the ability, talent, or drive to be among the best in your chosen professions. I didn't have the grades for Harvard or Columbia either.
So why do you make so many posts singing praises of schools you couldn’t get in? What’s it to you?

I never wrote a word that Reagan was trying to destroy and dismantle UC. Do you normally have discussions with the voices in your head?
but then shitting on top Universities because they are in states you don't like politically.
You're not responding to what I wrote. You're responding to what you wish I wrote. Do you normally have discussions with the voices in your head?

I specifically stated that Duke, Rice, UT Austin are respectable schools.

I specifically stated that there are a range of average, decent, and good colleges across the nation.

I worked at a highly regarded multinational corporation based in the South, and worked alongside perfectly capable people from Texas A&M, LSU, Iowa University, Oklahoma University. I myself never had the grades for Harvard, Columbia, or MIT.

I am not the first person in history to notice that the nations most elite universities and institutions where the most Nobel laureates worked tend to mostly (but not exclusively) be Ivy League schools, the elite private research universities in the north and northeast, and the UC schools along with Caltech and Stanford.

That's just a common sense observation which is not controversial.

So why do you make so many posts singing praises of schools you couldn’t get in? What’s it to you?
Because this thread is about higher education, because other posters were discussing Nobel prizes, and lastly I'd like you to post the rule, regulation, or policy that says you can't have an opinion on Harvard University or Berkeley unless you went there.

Because this thread is about higher education,
Not this thread in particular. I just notice you tend to start or post more about elite schools you couldn’t get in to than anyone else here.
I'd like you to post the rule, regulation, or policy that says you can't have an opinion on Harvard University or Berkeley unless you went there.
Where did I say there’s a rule against it?
I just notice you tend to start or post more about elite schools you couldn’t get in to than anyone else here.
I suspect the reason is sour grapes on your part.

@cawacko Yep, just a common sense observation which is not even remotely controversial.
