A warning from a former Anthropic researcher who said artificial intelligence "could kill us all" in the coming months and years, has led to headlines, confusion and plenty of speculation, but could AI actually kill humans? And if so, how?

Jacob Coxon announced this week that he was resigning amid fears the company and its chief rival OpenAI “are racing straight to self-improving superintelligence and gambling with our lives.” Coxon's social media posts warned that some of his colleagues now believe AI could threaten human life by the end of the decade.

"Many people working in the industry, including executives, senior researchers, believe that there's a substantial probability that this technology could kill everyone," Coxon told "NBC Nightly News."

In his social media posts, Coxon said Anthropic and its chief rival OpenAI “are racing straight to self-improving superintelligence and gambling with our lives.” He warned that some working on AI development believe it could threaten human life by the end of the decade.

“Do not underestimate the power of this technology,” he continued. “These will soon be superhuman systems that can hack anything, revolutionize any field overnight, and acquire real power and resources. We have all witnessed the progress in each of these domains, and progress is not slowing.”

His posts reached more than 100 million people overnight.

While many experts have touted the benefits of artificial intelligence, including recently during the Open SkAI conference in Chicago, they acknowledge the tool doesn't come without risk.

"These tools are able to find new ways of hacking critical infrastructure, defense systems, or water and electricity systems," University of Chicago Professor Rebecca Willett, who is overseeing research on AI and its impact on space, physics, medicine and more.

I grasp quite thoroughly that this technology cannot stop someone from pulling the plug on it or burning down the building it operates from.

But AI will be set to operate the electrical system.
So?

Let's see AI fix that!

Hummm, he has been on the job two whole and magically he puts this out, and 120 million people pass it around and just by luck, Bernie the panhandler Sanders has just written a bill to stop AI research in this country. Who woulda thunk?

Fuck you asshole. You supported the assassination of your president so, fuck you!

Well, AI is a threat to the Left. It much like the old Colt Peacemaker .45, makes all men equal. That is, for the less than sharp, less than brilliant, less than capable, AI provides a crutch in the form of replacing brain power with an answer to most everything. It's a pop college education in a colorful box ready to consume.

If the modelling used to create the AI is politically neutral, and simply looks for and presents facts without bias, it is a huge threat to the Left in particular. It destroys their grasp on the narrative.

I want the have the law applied by AI judges.

We know 100% that AI lies......that is enough for me to say pull the plug now.....this is obviously a bad idea.

It is certainly not.....except maybe in China.

It sure wouldn't take much AI to replace you, being the dolt that you are.
