For Populist Democrats, a Movement Fueled by Anger at Both Parties

A Montana wilderness firefighter, an Ohio ironworker and a lawyer who worked as a barista in Colorado while pursuing a Ph.D. would appear to have little in common. But all three represent a profusion in the midterm elections of anti-establishment populist Democrats who share, or at least seek to channel, the welling vexations of the American electorate.

They are young, or youngish. They are angry. They are fed up with the Democratic establishment. Two won primaries for House seats in red districts they hope to flip, and the third beat a longtime Democratic incumbent in a deep blue district. All are new to politics, which they consider a virtue.

“What inspired me the most to run was the fact that people in positions of power only seem to care about more power, more wealth and punishing people who threaten their wealth and power,’’ Mr. Poindexter said.

No thanks. Populism = bad in my book.

And as far as "anti establishment" that's how we got where we are now.

"Populism" is too vague to have any meaning. And Trump was the exemplification of the establishment.
I think the issue is really Democrats sick of their do nothing party, enabling Trump.

No all his followers thought tRump was anti exstablishment.

And you do not get to blame a vote for tRump on the Democrats. You make your own choices, nobody does it for you.

What's your take on Bernie and those in his orbit? He's arguably the leading anti-establishment figure on the left, and argues many of the establishment types let down the people etc.

Obviously all 3of those folks are unemployed. Not because of the job market or lack of companies looking and paying well for those skills. Just lazy, stupid and think the country owes them a living. As soon as their parents die who are dumb enough to support their confused asses, let them starve.

They aren't going anywhere, bit to your point it's not really populism like we are dealing with now.
