Hitler was on the Right side of the spectrum. . .

Nope. I was merely repeating your retardation.

BTW did you know that Trump was a Democrat? I guess he hated the Jews.
You can't repeat fhit retard

I don't give a fuck about trump that's what you fuck faces can't figure out. You miserable fucks hate Jews. Thats not my fault asshole

Let's remember what the terms actually mean, originating from the French Revolution where monarchists sat on the right side of the chamber of The National Assembly, revolutionaries on the Left. The terms thereafter came to differentiate democratic (leftwing) government from authoritarian (rightwing) government, leftwing-liberals from rightwing-conservatives. Confusion sometimes comes in when liberal government programs intended to benefit citizens are mistakenly thought of as right-wing authoritarianism, which they are not. The Nazis were rigidly authoritiarian and it is that that marks them as Right-wing.

Well said, thanks. We won't change Gardner's mind, or any of the other fools here who desire to conflate Germany's Nazi party with America's Democrat party. Today's Republican party is more akin to the Nazis than the (D)s are. Some defining differences:

Nazis = authoritarian, hyper nationalism. Insertion of religion (both Norse myth and Christianity) into public life and law (think abortion, 10 Commendments in schools & courtrooms, prayer and religious pageanty as part of govt. displays). Focus on women as 2nd class citizens and breeders of new party members. Aggression and war and displays of military might. Scapegoating of minorities (Jews, the undocumented, Gypsies, Muslims, LGBTQ). Extreme xenophobia. Hyper individualism. Using the law and courts as punitive tactics against perceived political enemies. Bullying. Turning in your neighbors. National pride in "going it alone." Contempt for perceived weakness including the handicapped, the poor, non-Whites. Govt. resources focused on the military rather than domestic needs.

Democrats: More inclusive. Don't base character judgments on a citizen's religion. Globalism vs nationalism/isolationism. Strong alliances with other nations. Using govt. to improve citizens' lives (health care, clean air/water/food), public aid to the disabled and/or indigent). Live and let live attitude toward alternative lifestyles. Generous pathways to citizenship. Minimum wage and worker protections. Equality for every citizen. Expansion of voting rights and protections. Education that is more than just prep for good soldiers or worker bees, including higher education. Compassion for the less fortunate. Govt. funding for science, research, development in medicine, technology, agriculture, etc.) Less govt. spending on military/war.

Yeah, very good. This problem of definition comes, I think, from where it's rooted, as a question of liberty, where it started and where it belongs, or a question of economics. The Communist example mixes things up to the point where we even see the ludicrous argument that Hitler was a Leftist.

Gardner's definition of the right is radical individualism. Virtually impossible to have a country based on that.

Which is why his eccentric understanding of history is not useful.

That might be what he thinks is our current Republican party, (its not), and its not The Right.

I think that last stems from the sneaking suspicion that Trumpism is eerily similar to Nazism. MAGATs cannot admit that their glorious leader is very similar to Hitler in some obvious ways -- the bullying, the warlike behavior, the scapegoating and persecution of minorities, the building of camps to keep them in, the bellowing hate-filled rhetoric, the slavish devotion of their fellow MAGATs to the Gropingfuehrer no matter what moral and legal crimes he commits, the desire to invade and take over other countries, the racism/sexism/xenophobia, etc.

Conservatives see leftist actions like mandating vaccines for school kids, seatbelts, motorcycle helmets, nutrition labels and so on as authoritarian. I agree to some extent that they could be considered that way. However, I can also understand that public health and safety overrides individual choice at times in a civilized society.

The differences between generous minds and rigid minds.

The actual Right doesn't want to do that. The Right that is to the right of Leftists, wants to do that. That doesn't make them on the actual Right. What confuses you is that the far Right is an irrelevant fringe of nutters and such like I pointed out earlier.

You would be wrong, because your thinking and point of view on this is myopic.
“the actual Right doesn't want to do that. The Right that is to the right of Leftists, wants to do that. That doesn't make them on the actual Right,” say what?

And isn’t all of the right “to the right of leftists?”

Gardner thinks the right is basically libertarian.
