California lands six universities in the global top 25

Housing is expensive here in part because people would like to live here. That's capitalism.
My gasoline is more expensive, but my electric and utilities are cheaper, and my income is significantly higher than demographically comparable people in Texas, Florida, and West Virginia.
In true capitalism, housing supply would be allowed to keep up with the demand we have. We don't do that in California. In fact, we are going on our fifth decade of not allowing it. Yes there is absolutely demand but that's the major reason for the high costs.

NIMBYism, anti-growth measures and abuse of acts like CEQA are the drivers of limiting supply. It's not Boomers only, but they are the leaders of this movement. It's the ultimate fvck you, I've got mine attitude.

And it absolutely contributes to making the state economy less dynamic. But hey, people don't want their neighborhoods to change so F everything else.

If cheap housing was plentiful on the Pacific Coast, millions of people would be leaving in droves from Texas, Louisiana, and Arizona to live here.
But its not so your claim was based solely on your opinion. Thanks. I will give it its due consideration.

Since the 1960s California became the world's fifth largest economy, and a global epicenter for R & D and technological innovation because it invested heavily in infrastructure and higher education.

Infrastructure, innovation, and education are pillars of economic growth. That is Economics 101.
So why do they have a relatively high poverty rate?
E.g., Kansas has a lower poverty rate than CA. Why do you think that is?

 "Suddenly" concerned about poor people, but votes hard-core Republican every time

California is a great state for white collar professionals, upper middle class, affluent, and it sucks for poor people. Just like Texas and West Virginia suck for poor people.

For being The Smartest Man on the Internet you sure have a bad memory. Anyone who mentions they lived in Metairie where I grew up I’m sure to remember.
The only reason you would know it is because you lurk my posts.

I barely even notice you're here unless I get notifications you have been composing responses to my posts.

Not only are you full of yourself but you’re full of shit. I’ve stated many times since 1999 when I changed my party affiliation that I haven’t voted Republican since then.
As far as poor people I’m not that concerned. Just wondering why CA has a high poverty rate and it’s even higher when you factor in the CPM.

Just like any other state.
and it sucks for poor people. Just like Texas and West Virginia suck for poor people.
Wouldn’t you say most all states suck for poor people?

The only reason you would know it is because you lurk my posts.

You draw my attention only with your obsession about universities that wouldn’t accept you. Other than that you almost never see me participate in your meaning of life yarns.

Glad I have your attention, fraud.

You draw my attention only with your obsession about universities that wouldn’t accept you!
You were obsessed with me long before that, creeper.

I was accepted into a PhD program at UC San Diego for grad school, which is a global top 25 university in this system's ranking, even though I ultimately chose to go elsewhere.
Other than that you almost never see me participate in your meaning of life yarns.
I very rarely discuss details of the events of my life, except with my friends and pals here. This is obviously your admission that you lurk me even when I'm am just shooting the shit with my friends, and whatever tidbits you glean are very important to you.
Glad I have your attention, fraud.
You're free to make the case that it's not an advantage for a state to have a world class system of higher education and research.

"Accepted into" =/= finished.

Didn't you earlier claim you didn't finish your masters degree program? Hmmmmm. Sounds like you don't have what it takes.

Poor Cypress has a huge chip on his shoulder over his relative lack of skill in academe. He earlier indicated that he didn't finish his masters degree so I'm curious why he's on here crowing about being accepted into a PhD program now.

I've never stated that, and you can search this board 'till the cows come home and you'll never find of post of me stating that.

Obviously you are the second dude on this thread who is fascinated in an unhealthy way about the obscure details and minutiae of my life, even when you fuck up the actual facts.

I casually let you dudes holler and bawl hundreds of time about my supposed lack of college education, and now you suddenly get distressed when I finally mention being accepted at UC San Diego?

You could always move to Texas or Tennessee if California is really as bad as you have been claiming for years, if not decades.

Elle Oh F'ing Elle man. This response is like a caricature.

There are people for whom California can do no right. Then people like yourself for whom California can do no wrong. And the idea that one can point out both the great things about the state, as well as its very real issues, is like a personal affront.

The fact that among others, the SF Chronicle, Gavin Newsom, Scott Wiener and many others regularly talk about the issue of housing in the state. And your response is? Move to Tennessee?

Again, Elle Oh F'ing Elle. I'm actually like fascinated to know where in the state someone can live to not be aware of this. Actually dude, your response is the most Boomer thing ever. It's telling people if you can't afford it, "too bad too sad" as my daughter says. It's the most F you thing ever.

Obsessed? No. I'll admit you're an interesting case study though. Here you are on a forum with virtually no rules and you like to crow about how "educated" you are.

GFY putz. I actually have a doctorate myself. Not sure if you actually got one but if you did I seriously doubt you did what I did w/ mine.
I very rarely discuss details of the events of my life, except with my friends and pals here.
Sorry to break this to you but these losers you consider your friends are not RL. How often do you meet them out for dinner, have a beer at a pub with, play golf or otherwise socialize w/ them? You consider them your friends because otherwise, you don't have any. I mean really - who the hell would want to hang w/ such a pompous pretentious person like you?
This is obviously your admission that you lurk me even when I'm am just shooting the shit with my friends,
Make believe "friends".
and whatever tidbits you glean are very important to you.
Wut?
You're free to make the case that it's not an advantage for a state to have a world class system of higher education and research.
I suppose it helps but it's obvious it hasn't helped CA all that much. Sounds to me like you have in inferiority complex about where you live - and yourself.

So now you are claiming you completed your PhD at UCSD?

I casually let you dudes holler and bawl hundreds of time about my supposed lack of college education, and now you suddenly get distressed when I finally mention being accepted at UC San Diego?

What program at UCSD? Surely you weren't accepted to Scripps (you clearly don't have ANY real science background). And that's about the only super prestigious part of UCSD that I am aware of.

I can see why you didn't want to mention your state of Louisiana, because they are economically backward.
Eat a dick with trying to be an education snob, you fucking fuck.
You couldn't even get into the programs I was in, shut your fucking piehole.
There's blacks that qualified more than you. True story, bitch.
