IT'S OFFICIAL: President Trump announces the largest steel plant in American HISTORY, which will be built in IOWA

Nice sidestep. My point was that yes, we want foreign investment in the United States. You mocked Trump for supporting a foreign-owned company, then immediately changed the subject when that sounded stupid.
When did I mock Trump? It seems you think you can make shit up to argue against. That is called a straw man and shows weakness in your debate skills.
Mesabi is an American company owned by India-based Essar, and the announced Iowa project is a $15 billion investment in American steelmaking, using Minnesota ore and employing Americans.
It seems you don't understand what ownership means.
And federal financing doesn’t somehow reverse that. EXIM finances projects through loans and guarantees; in this case it is financing Mesabi’s U.S. mining and processing operation.
It seems I was wrong. It wasn't just $770 million. The US is actually loaning the full $10 billion.

The United States has announced support of up to $10 billion to Mesabi Metallics, an Essar Group company, for a major minerals and manufacturing project in Minnesota.
So yes: I’d much rather have foreign capital coming here to build productive assets — even where we help finance the project — than have foreigners merely buying Treasury debt so Washington can finance more deficits.
What foreign capital? The US is loaning them the full $10 billion for the mining operation. Just 3 months ago, Mesabi Metallics was saying they were planning on selling all their DRI pellets on the open market.
But by all means, keep lecturing everyone about “checking the details” while avoiding the point you were actually responding to.
Which point was that? The foreign investment that is almost zero?

Translation: “Words got hard, so I switched to cartoons.”

Solid recovery. The intellectual equivalent of eating the crayons after losing the debate.

Translation: I got called out for my feeble gaslighting, whataboutism and general evasive bullshit. I couldn't come up with a credible denial, so instead I'll just falsely claim victory and lie about you being the one who can't mount a legitimate argument. But we both know it was the other way around.

Standard lazy-ass MAGA tactic.

Well, on related news Trump finally pushed the EPA, Forest Service, Interior, et al., to finalize their reports on the Resolution Copper mine in Arizona. It's moving ahead to production now and will become the largest copper mine in the world when in full production. That's after lots of foot dragging by Biden.

This project started late in Obama's second term in 2014, and has moved forward with the speed bump of the Autopen administration. But after just 12 years it's finally going to open.

I just consider Trump to be full of shit. I would not trust one of his promises any more than I would trust Lucy to let Charlie Brown kick that football.
I see nothing to indicate that this firm can do what they claim they are going to do.....there is no history that indicates this......and they are using mostly government money...

A recipe for another disaster....these sorts of plans rarely pan out.

6,000 construction jobs and $95 BILLION infusion into the economy

"The LARGEST steel plant in AMERICAN HISTORY." 🇺🇸

American steel IS BACK!

The plant will begin production in 2030 and close to 2,000 manufacturing or mining jobs are expected 👏🏻

"The steel will be mined, melted and made RIGHT HERE in the USA."

"Once completed, [the] new steel plant will produce 10 MILLION tons of steel per year using iron ore from the company's Minnesota mine! LOUSY governor but great iron ore." 🤣

"The first new iron ore mine in the US in more than 50 years."

Yeah, good luck with that one, Trump makes announces every week, we’re still waiting for Mexico’s checks for the wall

The reasons steel mills have not been generally built in IOWA have not changed.
What “reasons,” exactly?

Iowa already has a steel mill. The Muscatine-area mill opened in 1997 and is still producing steel today.

They also had Sivyer Steel Castings until a 2023 fire destroyed the operation and management ultimately chose not to rebuild it.

And apparently Mesabi’s engineers missed your memo, because they specifically chose eastern Iowa for access to the Mississippi, Minnesota ore and scrap for electric-arc furnaces.

So maybe actually name these mysterious, immutable “reasons” instead of vaguely announcing that everyone involved in a $15 billion project somehow forgot steel mills aren't allowed to work in Iowa.

And the native Americans, whose country we stole from them to begin with then raped it, get to sit by quietly and watch yet another one of their sacred ancestral sites get plowed up, steam shoveled and turned into a gaping pit for decades, from some other site they're going to get shoved off to and dumped like unwanted pets.

No surprise that right-wing Republicans as with everything else, just look at their ancient lands with $$ in their eyes. 🤑

I'm surprised trump isn't demanding that his name has to be added to it.

There was no native American tribe that owned the land that that mine is on. That's true for much of the land supposedly "stolen." Even if you want to claim it was Apache land, the Apache went to war with the US and lost. Therefore, that land was acquired as a prize of war.

Yea, like a handful of Apache today need that particular patch of land to collect "sacred" acorns in a 5 gallon bucket...

Well, let's take your misstatements one at a time.

1) it will not be anywhere close to the "largest copper mine in the world"....

2) ....it's not "moving ahead to production now".

Maybe you can dig up a copy of the formal declaration of war between the US government and the Apache Nation.

There were no "prize(s) of war" and after nearly two centuries and the treaties entered into with the Native Americans, taking this land, like the rest of the country, amounts to the same as theft.

Sacred land is sacred land.

Kinda like Israel/Palestine.

Israel did not "need" that land, they just wanted it. So they kicked out the people who were living there for generations and now we have the situation we have over there today.

But I'm sure you don't see any similarities.

Trivial objections.

  • Approximately $500 million in committed investment for enabling work for the next two years.
  • Surface drilling to collect additional resource information.
  • Upgrades to existing site infrastructure to prepare for potential underground development.

So, it is moving forward to production at this point.

There doesn't have to be for a war to exist. After all, at the time the Apache were nomadic tribes that subsisted mostly off raiding and theft.
There were no "prize(s) of war" and after nearly two centuries and the treaties entered into with the Native Americans, taking this land, like the rest of the country, amounts to the same as theft.

No it doesn't. Another example is the Great Lakes tribes under Tecumseh in the War of 1812. Tecumseh and the tribes in that region formally agreed to side with the British and go to war with the US. When the war ended in essentially a draw, the British dropped the Indian tribes on their own. The US took their land in retribution for having sided with the British as spoils of war.
Sacred land is sacred land.

To paraphrase Syndrome from The Incredibles, "When everything is sacred, nothing is." That is the totally bullshit line tribes trot out every time anyone does anything they disapprove of as an objection to it. The Indians are full of shit.

Israel and the Palestinians have fought numerous wars since 1947 and the Palestinians lost every one of them. Israel voluntarily withdrew all their settlements in Gaza for example, but the Palestinians just wanted more as a result. Egypt has secured their border with Gaza making a roughly 10 km wide zone of no habitation, with massive, deep trenches along their border to prevent tunneling, and won't let the Palestinians into their country because they know they'll just commit terrorist acts like they've done in the past.

Palestinians are the Palestinian's worst enemy.

With the gov't investment in the deal, it's basically industrial policy. And as Chomsky's quote shows, he spoke out against deals like this.

Biden's economic policy was one driven by industrial policy. The CHIPs Act, The Inflation Reduction Act, the Infrastructure Act among other things.

Chomsky's quote any less relevant when Biden was doing it? Or did he do it in a different way?

Trivial objections.
Your post was a misstatement of fact.
  • Approximately $500 million in committed investment for enabling work for the next two years.
  • Surface drilling to collect additional resource information.

All prep work.

No production.
There doesn't have to be for a war to exist. After all, at the time the Apache were nomadic tribes that subsisted mostly off raiding and theft.
Before white settlers arrived and began massacring buffalo by the millions for their hides while leaving the meat and carcasses to rot on the ground, there was nobody aside from rival tribes, for them to have a "war" with.

So if it was a "war", we started it and they were defending their land.

Now you're in favor of piling on more insult to injury.

Typical MAGA.

Not surprised.

In retribution for trying to defend themselves from the greedy white bastards who were raping their home.

Which again, you in typical MAGA fashion, heartily support.
To paraphrase Syndrome from The Incredibles, "When everything is sacred, nothing is." That is the totally bullshit line tribes trot out every time anyone does anything they disapprove of as an objection to it.
I can say the same thing about Israel.

I bet you wouldn't agree.

MAGA hypocrite.
The Indians are full of shit.
People who defend invaders of sacred native lands are full of shit.

MAGA is full of shit.
Israel and the Palestinians have fought numerous wars since 1947 and the Palestinians lost every one of them.
All after Palestine was divided up.
Beside the point.

Before their homeland was divided up and handed over to others, none of that was an issue.
Palestinians are the Palestinian's worst enemy.
And white Europeans were are still the native Americans' worst enemy.

What happened to Foxconn? A look at the $1.2 billion spent and where it all went

In 2018, President Donald Trump came to southeast Wisconsin to proclaim the coming of “the eighth wonder of the world.”

He was standing on a plot of land near Mount Pleasant, Wisconsin – a mostly-rural village of 27,000 people nestled between Racine to the east, and Interstate 94 to the west.

That “eighth wonder” was a sprawling new manufacturing plant, to be built in Mount Pleasant by a giant Taiwanese tech company called Foxconn, which promised to hire more than 13,000 local people to build high-definition TV screens.

Local and state officials said it would be the beginning of a technological renaissance in the area, which they planned to call “Wis-con Valley.”

It never happened.

An Indian company with almost no experience mining, has yet to produce any pellets, no experience running steel mills, using mostly other peoples money.....what could go wrong?

Already one bankruptcy......many missed dates.....

5 years to build, and the second tRump dies or leaves office and the tariffs go away it's no longer economical. It will never be completed. Hell it may never have the ground broken.
