Okay, here's my pet peeve for the day:

Possibly the most moronic thing that has been done in the political arena to date was mounting a movement around the phrase "defund the police". 🙄

The ACTUAL goal expressed by REAL intelligent leadership was to DE-MILITARIZE the police. But ego and the need to seem "defiant" by some lead to stubbornly holding onto a slogan that legitimately gives people a point to criticize. Thus, you lose and alienate the very people you need for your cause.

A shame.

LIAR......the stated program was to have social workers rather than police be sent to deal with issues......to divert funding from the police to NGO's and other agents of the state.

Why wasnt that phrase used then?

Another way for crooked politicians to give money to their cronies

Is anyone even using the phrase "defund the police" today? Seem to have lost its appeal.

Using that phrase was instrumental in beating down the legitimate grievances and moving it of the public debate
.. especially during political campaigns.

You're not wrong that whether it's business or politics, how you communicate your ideas is very important.

And if you have to spend time explaining what your words, or slogans, mean then you've created a problem for yourself.

And this is a great example because the average person hearing it likely didn't know whatever nuance the creators had in mind.

Back in the 'good old days' of the early 20th Century and before, when things got out-of-hand to a point a "de-militarized" police force couldn't handle it, the military stepped in and took care of business, sometimes with machineguns, others with swords and cavalry.

Maybe a somewhat militarized police force is better than a military turning out to put down a riot. Kent State anyone?

Some people would say that Pol Pot's move toward an agrarian society leading to his slaughter of much of his population was more moronic than "Defund the Police."

Some people would claim that stealing the 2020 Presidential election was the most moronic thing, because now nobody wants to be associated with the Democrat Party.

Some people would claim that assassinating Charlie Kirk was the most moronic thing because it galvanized much of the country against the Democrat Party.

Some people would claim that the Global Warming and Climate Change religions are the most moronic things ever devised because they reveal the completely dystopian Orwellian vision the Democrats have for the US. Instead of Animal Farm, the DNC desires Poverty Farm.

You know, I'm starting to think that your claim that the "Defund the Police" movement is somehow the most moronic thing that has been done ... might be somewhat of an exaggeration.

The ACTUAL goal expressed by REAL intelligent leadership was to DE-MILITARIZE the police.
I bet you have no intention of unambiguously defining this term, despite your immediate willingness to write it in all upper-case letters. You are trying to form up another leftist religion around your undefined dogma of "DE-MILITARIZE the NOT-THE-MILITARY".

But ego and the need to seem "defiant" by some lead to stubbornly holding onto a slogan that legitimately gives people a point to criticize.
Fortunately you aren't doing exactly the same thing. Good for you.

Thus, you lose and alienate the very people you need for your cause.
Guess how the people, who you need for your cause, feel. Go on, take a guess.

Precisely! It drives me crazy because there is an undertow of attitude among a lot of black social, political and media personalities that we don't criticize each other in public, especially if someone has the public stage spotlight that irritates the powers that be. And as we see, that's not good sometimes.

When you are holding the cards these MAGA assholes are holding...

...ya gotta go for tried and tested bullshit.

That is what they are doing.

They are actually a very entertaining lot. If you can't get a laugh at what Trump and his lackies say and do (no matter how destructive some of it is)...then your sense of humor needs to be tended to.

So here's what they mean - they don't want to actually "defund" the police they want to suppliment it with mental health professionals - better at deescalating domestic and other situations to the police don't have to be the counselors.

They just phrased it badly and like trumptards always do they take shit out of context and try to leverage it.

Hey did you hear about "all the dems wanting open borders". Same shit. Dems have a messaging problem. They need a Frank Lunz type clown.

I know what they meant... I thought I clearly conveyed that. Essentially, what you posted elicits the time honored, "tell me something I don't know". Just saying.

Sorry, but people getting murdered or having their entire financial future in jeopardy ain't all that funny to me. To be ridiculed sarcastically and cynical, but not funny in the basic sense.
