Haters of New Orleans are free to say they prefer Omaha, Little Rock, or Indianapolis.
In my opinion, America has three classic cities that are utterly unique and distinctive:
San Francisco, New Orleans, Boston.
We've only been to NOLA once, for an afternoon. We went to an aquarium with my oldest son and g-son, then they went back to Baton Rouge while we wandered around the French Quarter, with an adult beverage, just gawking. It was a neat place. The architecture was wonderful and people were friendly. The flowers were spectacular.
At one point we were walking behind a couple of people I assumed were probably also tourists. But one of them made the hair on my arms stand up with goosebumps. He/she (they were androgynous from the front) turned around and said "Blessed be, fellow traveler." He/she was wearing a small pentacle necklace. I didn't have any jewelry or other identifying stuff. We witches know each other. Maybe I read too many Anne Rice novels, but the French Quarter definitely has a supernatural vibe.
