Anyone been recently? (I haven't been in 20 years since watching 'SC curb stomped Oklahoma; sorry @leaningright, lol)

My best friend lives in LA but travels a lot. He said he's seen the most growth in Dallas and Nashville. He texted last night after spending the week in Miami and said the growth and amount of money in Miami is crazy.

Ken Griffin just announced the $2B donation to create a new Carnegie Mellon campus in Miami and a number of tech, crypto and financial firms have moved there.

It's certainly not the most convenient location but something is happening.

It is booming. So much money, and poverty. Lots of South American money.

I have not been in over a year, (except to drive to the keys) and I live less than an hour away.

Not a rhetorical question. Hasn't it always had lots of South American money?

Is this growth being driven by more South American (or international) money or from domestic movement? Or both?

What do you know about La Gorce Country Club? (I've never heard of it). My buddy said he sat next to a member last night at dinner who said they've agreed to raise member initiation to $1.75m. I have never heard of a CC charging that much.

The guy said it's even worse up North in Indian Creek.

It seems to me it is more SA money than ever. I read that a huge percentage of the Condos there have never been lived in, but many South Americans purchased them for Tax advantages in their home countries.

Why would anyone pay $1,75 million to belong to a country club? It’s nonsensical

I've never heard of it, but I don't run in that crowd.

How much is Mar-A-Lago?

I can't understand it myself. I mean I understand exclusivity and what access brings, but I've never even heard of this place.
There are exclusive country clubs everywhere, all a matter of perspective, and I understand the purpose, just not the ridiculous ends some go to set them themselves apart. Then again, I live in a part of the country that routinely doesn’t stress status like others do

Wait, you live in New York and claim people don't care about status?

Care, sure, a lot do, just like everywhere else, but not as routinely as other parts of the country, it is why public transportation is valued here but no so in other areas especially where it would make the most sense, Florida is eventually going to run out of room to keep adding lanes

Hold on. NYC cares very much about status around neighborhoods, buildings, private schools, exclusive clubs, wealth etc. The Hamptons is basically that on steroids.

And status in Florida is on car lanes? What gives?

Life in NY does not center nor revolve around “neighborhoods …….. exclusive clubs,” and as I said, “care, a lot do,” ie the Hamptons, and I used public transportation as the example, Florida shuns it repeatedly adding new car lanes to their roads to accommodate more autos

Since we were talking about CC's. National Golf Links, Shinnecock Hills, Friar's Head, Maidstone and Sebonack (among others) and that's just on Long Island. Some of those are over $500K to join. Those are some of the most exclusive and elite clubs in the country. But people there don't care about status?

You are losing me. I started the thread about growth in Miami and later shared what I heard from my friend at dinner about one particular Miami CC.

How does evolve to New York people take the subway and Florida builds roads?

Not representative of the whole, as I said, some care, most do not, a person’s status is not common attribute of the culture

Well you added country clubs which easily transitioned over to perceived status and myself then adding I lived in an area not overly concerned with status. Mass transit became the example, where NY thrives on mass transit others disdain it in favor of enlarging roads

Got it

Fuck you dick bag

In large cities like LA and NY there are MASSES of people who laugh at the idiot wealth display of shallow people with money

You just never had friends like that

So you see everything from your greed perspective

Being a shallow fuck interested in greed display doesn’t require one to actually have wealth

If you don't know this, I do enjoy our discussions on here.

But this is one of the most random tangents I've seen. I'm still like, what?!
