The super scary question is why are the people in charge, the people who run America from the shadows, allowing Trump to stay even as he is speeding up the collapse of the Empire?
The general answer on my Grapevine is that it is because the runners of Empire are insane.

America is a mature super power and whereas country growth based on MC growth since WW2 was the easiest way for the rich to make money, in a mature country the easiest way for the super rich to make money is to take it from the middle class that built up. They see these homes and 401K and pensions and things like Medicaid and medicare as all 'trapped wealth' that would be better off in their hands.
During the last big recession the uber rich stripped massive home saving wealth from the MC and pushed it up to the rich. Trump immediately after the MT's, with his cuts to medicaid will push even more wealth up to the rich from the MC and below, then the great recession home crash did.
Wallstreet engineers are focused more on looting inside America then trying to grow a big country that is mature and harder to grow.
