They defraud elections not just to gain power in the short term, but also to undermine public trust and support for elections. They have no intention of allowing free and fair elections should they gain sufficient power. They will point to the fraud they themselves perpetrated as proof that elections can't be trusted.
Americans think in terms of elections, democrats think long term. They work to create a system where it isn't possible to anyone not 100% loyal to the party, to the cause, hold power of any sort.
