Trump says animals that land on solar panels fry because those black panels are hotter than your stove

According to multiple accounts of the rallies, Trump told supporters that some solar installations “kill all the animals.” He distinguished them from what he called “those big monsters” put up widely, then described animals jumping onto black panels and being killed by their heat.

The available reporting establishes that Trump made the remarks. It does not provide independent evidence that animals routinely jump on solar panels and are fatally “fried,” or that the broad claim that solar installations kill all animals is supported.

MSN making shit up again.

But, since you brought it up...
Critters landing on solar panels damages the panels.
They are also damaged by:

snow
hail
sand
ice
rain
critters hitting them or eating the wiring
sunshine

Heat can be felt from a distance
Heat has no temperature, Stooge.
Animals know not to climb into fires too
Black fire beetles actively chase forest and brush fires. They use the freshly scorched areas for reproduction.
Moths, gnats, and some beetles have been known to fly directly into a campfire. Some drunk or stoned people have fallen into campfires and sometimes died as a result.

Exaggeration. He is obviously conflating the Ivanpah "Bird cooker" concentrated solar array with PV arrays. PV arrays do contribute to urban heat island effects, but they don't generate enough heat to cook anything. You might be able to fry an egg on one on a hot day, but that's about it.

This is just more nut picking by Trump's detractors.
Solar arrays using molten salt towers will easily cook a passing bird, if the bird gets close enough to the focal point.

If they got that hot they would fry the electronics.

They are black. They likely get as hot as black asphalt. Although probably not because they turn some of that absorbed light into electricity instead of heat.
There are no "electronics" in a solar panel. They work in the same way a thermocouple does. There are two dissimilar metals with different potentials in contact with each other. Sunlight hits the metal and causes a current to flow based on that difference in potential.

In this case, silicon with dopants are used to create the difference. But there are no "electronics" just the two metals. This is not dissimilar to a battery either, you just don't have the electrolyte to carry the charge from + to -.

No metals in a solar cell itself. There is a metal contact underneath to pick up the charge, but the panels are made out of silicon, not a metal.
They are essentially just a really large diode.

Silicon junctions can build up a charge upon exposure to light. The same principle is used when making a 'retina' for a video camera. The number of diodes in that array determine the resolution of the video camera.

20-30 degrees above ambient at the max.

In other words on the hottest summer day in death valley they might hit 175 degrees, which is about the temperature of a fresh cup of coffee.

Um, wouldn't houses with solar panels on their roofs be burning down right and left if they got hot enough to "fry" something? lol

@Dutch Uncle has solar. How hot do they get in the July Texas sun, DU?

It's more nuttiness by The President of The United States.

You almost start to feel sorry for the MAGATs. Imagine worshiping a demigod this stupid, corrupt, and anti-American that you have to waste time defending the cretin nearly every day. You'd think they be ashamed by now.

Yes, instead of shame the dedicated ones are digging in, e.g.: "If Trump isn't perfect he's at least better". It seems most voters may no longer think so. We'll see on Tuesday.

I have no idea how hot the panels get, but doubt it’s enough to catch fire. All I know is that we keep our house at 68F and my August bill was $166, September was $152. The solar panels are a system which came with increased insulation and a solar powered attic fan. Most of the houses in my county, especially the new residential ones, have solar panels.

I'm heartened by the polling in red, red Missouri's 2nd congressional district. Historically (R)s owned the district with the (D) candidates seldom getting above 30% of the vote. They are essentially tied currently!

And whenever you're in the mood for a fried snack, you just collect the delicious pigeons, crows, rattlers, possums, and skunks that pile up under your eaves.

It's not enough. If it were we would be swamped with pics and videos from MAGA types offering proof of the carnage.

LOL. I’ve never found any dead critters on or near my panels. Only fucking morons believe any of the bullshit falling out of Trump’s mouth.

They would be far better off educating themselves on how the various power-generating systems work, and *then* point out the downfalls. There really is no such thing as a free lunch. Every method of creating electricity has a price tag. Intelligent people would point out those prices rather than making up nonsense like wind farms cause cancer and solar panels fry wildlife and harnessing geothermal will crack the Earth in half. :rofl2:

Caveat for the cretins: I just made that last bit up to show how ridiculous Trump and his cult are.
