Harry Truman made an extensive renovation of the White House in his terms in office.

Truman received extensive authorization for everything he did with the White House. trump was promising not to destroy a third of the white house even while he was doing just that.

So, Obama's quip is just the usual sarcastic attempt at humor jabbing at Trump. It's what politicians do.

You need to learn history as Truman utilized Congress as the law demands and other reno's were done prior to any law dictating how they were to be done.

Trump is the first to engage in such large scale demolition and changes while not doing any consultations with the required parties.
