"2020 Census Will Ask About Respondents' Citizenship Status"

"The U.S. Commerce Department announced late Monday that it will restore a question about citizenship to the 2020 census questionnaire."

"The last time a question about citizenship was included in the census questionnaire was 1950."

I suppose the biggest question is why, but then again, we all know why, even further evident in Huckabee's flat out lie in today's press conference attempting to justify the questions inclusion, "This is something that’s been part of the census for decades"

It ask the ? for many many many many years was just removed in 2010

Do you know why we do a census?

Sure the Constitution tells us, "representation and tax," and anyone other than Native Americans were to be counted, they refered to it as "free people," and we all know about the three fifths compromise, counting individuals defiantly not citizens

actually the question was removed in 1950 but educated people know that

LIAR

one in six households received a question on citizenship through the “long-form census” as recently as 2000, i.e., when the last census was produced prior to the Obama tenure. The citizenship question was found in long-form censuses from 1970 to 2000.

Even after the long-form census disappeared, a citizenship question persisted. The Obama administration included the question in the American Community Survey (ACS), which is received by one in 38 households.

Wrong, leave your partisan sites and read what they are framing

The actual census hasn't asked the question since the 1950's, addendums and census surveys have included it but both of them are samplings and not an actual nationwide count

Was the question been part of the census for a long time, technically yes, but not as part of the actual decade count conducted via the Constitution every ten years to determine representation

The only reason to not like this is if u are a law breaker

Kinda like if Cops ? you about breaking into a house if u didnt do it why worry about the ?s

It was NEVER intended to be about taxation. It was only about representation. So if you are not a citizen, why would we want to count you?

Once again you are dead wrong. Please stop being such a willful idiot without the facts. The 2000 census clearly contained a citizenship question. So why not if this is about Government "representation" in Congress? Do you actually believe that illegals should have representation in congress? Or affect the drawing of political boundaries? Why?

About the same as asking nationality, race, sex, politics, etc, etc. Nothing if they are just trying obtain an accurate count of people.

You should know better. That question will make some people less likely to fill out a census form, thereby providing a worse count of the people. It is not about accuracy..

The question that asks my race makes me less likely I'll fill out the census form. It's not the gubmint's business what race I am.

Have any of those questions been resurrected after a seventy years absence? And the last thing it is going to produce is an accurate estimate of Hispanic population, which then again, probably is the purpose

So why should we be catering to illegals?

Nah, your changing the subject, if you can't stay on topic, start your own thread

And by asking that question what you are going to do is discourage illegals from responding, meaning an accurate count is the last thing you will get, counting illegals was not the purpose of the census as stated in the Constitution

Why would illegals not respond?

Of course it does, representation also, which is the real variable

And again, why even bring the question back after seventy years? No matter where you place it just the fact that it is there is going to discourage people from responding

The Constitutional definition of who should be counted states "free people," it doesn't ask for a count of citizens but rather individuals living in the United States, why now regurgitate a inquiry deemed unnecessary seventy years ago?

Nobody is saying they shouldn’t be counted. I want them counted

Don’t you think we should know how many there are?

Knowing who isn't a citizen is a good thing. We (government) should know who is living in the country they govern. I fully support this.

I fully support photo ID to vote in local, state, and federal elections, that it should be a voter issued ID, not a state ID. Unless we do not give state IDs or driver's license to people who are not actual citizens of the United States. In many foreign countries you must either use your passport as an ID or if you are going to be there for long period of time and driving, obtain an international driver's license.
