3000 Dead Americans: Incredibly Successful One Of The Best Jobs That's Ever Been Done

Trump is so full of himself:

"President Trump patted himself on the back Tuesday for an “incredibly successful” job done in Puerto Rico, where the government estimates that nearly 3,000 people died as a result of Hurricane Maria last year.

Speaking from the White House, Mr. Trump sought to assure the public that the Federal Emergency Management Agency was ready for Hurricane Florence, which is currently heading toward the Carolinas, saying, “We are as ready as anybody has ever been.”

He boasted that the federal government got excellent grades for its disaster response in Texas and Florida, but he complained that the even better job done in Puerto Rico had been ignored. “I think that Puerto Rico was an incredible, unsung success,” Mr. Trump said."

New York Times

Unapologetically delusional.

How can anybody look at a government response to something, where 3000 Americans died, and say it was incredibly successful?

That just makes no sense.

Most conservatives are highly suspect of anything the government does, sometimes even exaggerating that the government can't ever do ANYTHING right.

And here we have President Trump claiming that this is one of the best jobs ever done.

3000 people is about how many we lost from the World Trade Center on 911.

The government clearly could have done better.

This was a disastrous response to a disastrous situation.

More could have been done and more should have been done.

Hello hvilleherb,

Puerto Ricans who voted for independence are not real American citizens.

I don't understand why you say that.

You know, if that place were built up a little nicer, and somebody who knew how to put up amazing hotels, maybe a golf course or two, went in there and spruced it up, that place could be a tourist gold mine.

Why are we overlooking such a gem?

Sure, it would take some investment. But isn't that they way things work? Sometimes you've got to spend a little money to make some money.

That place could be a gold mine.

And I bet there are a lot of people there who would be really happy to have better jobs.

Maybe we've been looking at Puerto Rico all wrong.

How are they ever supposed to pay off their debt if the place can't earn any money?

I think it's an embarrassment.

If only we had a President with some vision who knew how to bring out the potential of a property...

I have never encountered an adult who speaks in hyperboles. He gives himself at A plus for everything. Everything is the greatest of all-time. the worst of all time. Who talks like that after they get out of teen years? Daffy is the worlds oldest teenager. He is a huge embarrassment.

You cannot carry on an intelligent conversation with a crazy guy like that. Hillary was an adult and she was exasperated by his wild and crazy talk. He pushed buttons and she answered questions.

You don't know what an ' American ' is.

Yeah, and he went and threw them toilet rolls! What was he thinking of?

I don't think that he does think. And where was his staff when he told someone to go get a bunch of paper towels for him to toss? "Uh sir, I don't think that's going to make a great photo op."

I talked to my friend who lives on a barrier island off the coast of SC last night and we were joking about the paper towels. She said that Trump will send the govt in to rescue the old rich white ppl the next island over first. I said yeah, you'll get the paper towels; they'll get the finest Egyptian cotton bath towels. lol

I fear that President Trump, as well as being totally confused, has an attention span of about five minutes, which to his followers is HUGE. Coherence, unlike prejudice, is not their thing.

There's a reason he chose Twitter as a means to communicate with them. In <300 characters he can spout off some simplistic catch words that appeal to their baser selves, while appearing himself to be well-informed on the things that matter to them -- brown ppl coming over the border, the economy, crime, NATO taking all our money, uppity black NFL players, MURICA, etc.

I looked into this yesterday and the study gives a range between 700 and 4800 or some similar figures in which the 3000 figure represents the midpoint of the estimate. It's equally likely that it could be any number in that range.

Would you supply us a link to that study?

Total excess mortality post-hurricane
using the
migration displacement scenario is estimated to
be 2,975 (95% CI: 2,658-3,290) for the total study
period of September 2017 through February 2018.

95% confidence. 95 times out of a 100 surveys run, you would get a number that falls in between 2600 and 3300
