60% of Americans did not go to college.

"When you are practicing zazen, do not try to stop your thinking. Let it stop by itself. If something comes into your mind, let it come in, and let it go out. It will not stay long. When you try to stop your thinking, it means you are bothered by it. Do not be bothered by anything. It appears as if something comes from outside your mind, but actually it is only the waves of your mind, and if you are not bothered by the waves, gradually they will become calmer and calmer."

"Even though waves arise, the essence of your mind is pure; it is just like clear water with a few waves. Actually water always has waves. Waves are the practice of the water.. To speak of waves apart from water or water apart from waves is a delusion. Water and waves are one." - from Zen Mind, Beginner's Mind by Shunryu Suzuki-roishi.

Moving up through the military requires a college degree. Without a college degree, you can not be a commissioned officer.

You can learn lots of skills in the military that could translate into jobs and you don’t come out in 6 figure debt.

Or come out as a liberal with screwed up ideas.

All Trump supporters. We can do better.

The point is not that people who go to college learn to think but that by getting an education they escape the McCarthyite brainwashing that rules so much of discontented America and stops the mugs from following their own interests - which would NOT include supporting a senile pretend-billionaire.

Why would you want to?

It's quite possible to make excellent money without ever going to college...even become a millionaire.
It's also quite possible for a college graduate to windup working at McDonald's because their degree is utterly useless.
I know many a lawyer in shabby suits and living in small houses or even apartments. I know others that make big money, and travel the world.
I know many a doctor that lives and works in his own clinic. It's all he has. I know others that are world renowned, traveling the world.
I know many a computer programmer that couldn't code his way out of a wet paper bag. I know others that are skilled artists when it comes to programming. Their code is efficient, reliable, and takes less time to develop than whole teams of incompetent programmers.

I know college professors teaching electronics that don't understand how to hook up an LED or get an oscillator to work reliably, and can't even read the resistor color codes.
I know college professors teaching math that didn't know trigonometry, statistical math, or probability math. One didn't even know the Pythagorean Theorem.
I know college professors teaching 'philosophy' that don't even know what philosophy IS. They tend to teach a few paradoxes and call that 'philosophy'.
I know college professors teaching science that actually believe in Global Warming, a religion that defies the 1st and 2nd laws of thermodynamics and the Stefan-Boltzmann law.
History professors that deny even recent history.

High school instructors are even worse.

Is it any wonder that so many in America are illiterate today? America is moving into the night of illiteracy. My moniker is a warning.

Or jobs teaching gender studies.

There actually is a real demand for electricians and plumbers right now. There is also a real big demand for general contractors, carpenters, drywall, painting, and landscaping. Good plumbers and electricians can make pretty good money. A good general contractor can make EXCELLENT money.

Tell me how many of you have had a college degree holder build your house, fix your plumbing, repair your home wiring, fix your computer controlled car? The list goes on, not everyone needs a college degree. But you idiots think all non-college degree holders are red-neck, bible toting, gun loving Trump supporters. BTW how many of you elitist hold a degree? And is that degree higher than a BA in basket weaving? And before you ask yes I have a bachelor of science degree.

Actually I know a few ppl with PhDs who work at jobs like that in the summer, to supplement their income. My language teacher does carpentry and building, for example.

But your point is well said. We need plumbers, mechanics, carpenters as much -- if not more! -- than we need more lawyers, history majors, or Russian lit majors.
