While you were focused on political power dems dominated the cultural field. What dems have realized long ago and that Trump is helping repubs realize now is that everything is interconnected. Politics is just one part of it. If you dominate politics but lose all the other fields the country is still not going to go the way you want to.

Not really, because, it was at that exact time that talk radio and Fox were just starting up. Dems would have lost the courts entirely, and they would not have been able to appoint people anywhere in government. That would have pretty much just left them with the entertainment industry. The public would have been less inclined to believe Hollywood preaching if the left had no power to claim credit for anything good that went on in the world.

Expectations are 90% of a speech like the SOTU. Even I find myself surprised when Trump delivers a speech like yesterday.
And he HAS gotten much better w/ the ol' teleprompter. He used to sound very stiff w/ it, but last night was pretty smooth.
