A Defense of a Liberal Arts Education

No, they do not. A liberal arts college would have little to no graduate programs. Berkeley has a college of arts and science that has one of the best, and oldest nuclear physics departments. They have been doing ground breaking nuclear physics work for nearly a century. A liberal arts college would not do such a thing.

Berkeley calls their college of arts and science the College of Letters and Science, but it is the same thing. UNC calls it the College of Arts and Science.

Again, I have to ask how you do not know any of this?

MIS becomes too specialized. There is not enough general learning. You get a degree that expires over time.
Berkeley does not teach any science.
They teach meaningless buzzwords as 'science'.

I never attended Berkeley. I have never even been there. All the schools I attended were on the East Coast.

I rarely even used the supercomputers at Lawrence Berkeley, instead using the supercomputers at Lawrence Livermore.
You don't know how to program a computer, Wally.
Stop pretending.

You think Oppenheimer worked at a liberal arts college? You think Lawrence Berkeley is run out of a liberal arts college? UC Berkeley is 100% a large public research university, and not a liberal arts college. The first hint should be all the research funding and graduate students.

I am extremely pro-nuclear energy, as is Biden. In fact, we are seeing trump destroy many of the nuclear energy deal Biden made.

Your point is that rather than being a liberal arts college, UC Berkeley has one of the best nuclear physics programs in the world?
Science isn't funding.
Science is not a research of study.
Science is not a class or a college or a university.
Berkeley does not teach science or physics.
Science is not meaningless buzzwords.

You think Oppenheimer worked at a liberal arts college?

You still don't grasp the whole "University" concept, do you?

Got it - so the only thing Berkeley has is "research.."

ROFL

Keep digging, walt.

I am extremely pro-nuclear energy, as is Biden.

Okay.

In fact, we are seeing trump destroy many of the nuclear energy deal Biden made.

You mean the nuclear weapons for Iran?

Your point is that rather than being a liberal arts college, UC Berkeley has one of the best nuclear physics programs in the world?

You fail to grasp what a University is.

Berkeley has dozens of schools and colleges under their umbrella.

You may be, but I doubt it. Biden--well Autopen and the radical Leftists in his administration--was anti-nuclear.

Autopen was on the wrong side of the issue (opposed) as he has been about virtually everything in his whole political career.

On the other hand, Trump is clearly pro nuclear power

You still don't grasp the whole "University" concept, do you?
Oppenheimer, and the rest of the nuclear physics department, was/is in the College of Letters and Science, which you say is a liberal arts college.

The fact is that the UC Berkeley College of Letters and Science does a huge amount of research, and has an extensive graduate programs, which makes it not a liberal arts college.

Berkeley has one of the best nuclear science departments in the world.

If you look at all the universities in California, Texas, Florida, here is how they rank in total number of Nobel prize winners.

California, 363 Nobel prize winners

Texas, 21 Nobel prize winners

Florida, 13 Nobel prize winners

There are bad math teachers out there.

Point being that a liberal arts education requires there to be a math and science curriculum to supplement the coursework in humanities, literature, and social studies.
Bihh! I looked in the Dictionary, and they had a picture of you for "Hubris".
And then..a couple of your posts here as an example, you mufugger you!

Which is nice, but it is only one of over a DOZEN colleges that Berkeley has. One of which - as proven to you 4 times now, is a school of liberal arts.

The California University System was once the pride of the nation.

Once.

Since 2020, 5 Nobel Prize winners have been affiliated with UC Berkeley, and ABSOLUTELY ZERO HAVE COME FROM TEXAS AND FLORIDA!!! More Nobel Prize winners come from UC Berkley than all the Red States combined.

I swear these alt right's favorite science is the Old Testament.

So you admit, the one school at UC Berkeley that gives liberal arts degrees is not a liberal arts college... But now argue one of the schools that does not give liberal arts degrees is a liberal arts college? Is it the engineering college?

Did your understanding of science end with the Old or the New Testement?

The person who thinks he is smarter than all the experts in the world, is pointing fingers at others?

The University of California won five Nobel Prizes in 2025 in physics, chemistry, and medical science.

To the best of my knowledge the University of Texas and University of Florida won zero in 2025.

"Since 2020, 5 Nobel Prize winners have been affiliated with UC Berkeley, ". You lose again Walt.

University of California, Berkeley, only counts current and retired faculty members
1)John Clarke (Physics 2025) worked at Lawrence Berkeley and Berkeley proper his entire post graduate school professional career, doing all his research at Berkeley.
2)Omar Yaghi(Chemistry 2025) moved to UC Berkeley from UCLA in 2012, doing most of his Nobel research at UC Berkeley, but having done some at UCLA(also part of the University of California system)
3)David Card(Economics 2021) after doing a few years post-doc at Princeton, started working at Berkeley in 1997. Did all his Nobel work at Berkeley.
4) Jennifer Doudna(Chemistry 2020) moved to Berkeley in 2002. She left Berkeley in 2009 to work in the private sector. They refused to allow her to research CRISPR, so two months later she was back at Berkeley. Berkeley saw the promise in her proposed research, and allowed her to cancel all other obligations to just research CRISPR. That has created one of the biggest breakthroughs in biology ever.
5) Reinhard Genzel(Physics 2020) moved to Berkeley in 1981. In 1986, accepted a position at Max Planck Garshing(I have been there), but kept a part time position at Berkeley. He spent part of his year in Germany, and part of his year in Berkeley.
